1.1 Student par-cipa-on requirements
The JCU Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures (2.1.2d) indicates a typical student workload for a
three (3) credit point subject requires a 130 hour work load of study related ac(vi(es, including

aTendance, assessment and self-directed study over the dura(on of the subject with equivalency across
all modes of delivery.
Note that aTendance at specified classes will be a mandatory requirement for sa(sfactory comple(on of
some subjects (Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures, 3.1.8e) and that addi(onal hours may be
required per week for those students in need of English language, numeracy or other learning support.

1.3 Subject descrip-on
This subject introduces students to the mul(dimensional nature of interna(onal business and discusses
the importance of globalisa(on and how it has changed the compe((ve environment of business. It

introduces the role of mul(na(onal corpora(ons and the complexity of interna(onal opera(ons and
management, and discusses current debates surrounding mul(lateral bodies. Reasons for the
emergence of globalisa(on and the interna(onalisa(on of business are considered along with emergent
business strategies and organisa(onal forms appropriate to interna(onal business. Trade policies of a
number of important trading partners are examined through the applica(on of a trade poster.
Interna(onal business entry modes and the impact of cultural differences on doing business overseas are
analysed. Students will need to demonstrate skills in gathering and evalua(ng data, from both printed
and internet sources, and developing a strategic business approach in analysing interna(onal business
case studies. Students will gain from this subject an apprecia(on of the mul(faceted nature of trade in a
globalised trading system.

2.2 Requirements for successful comple-on of this subject
In order to pass this subject, you must:
• Achieve an overall percentage of 50% or more.
• Demonstrate regular aWendance and engagement with the content of this subject in accordance with student
par-cipa-on requirements as outlined above, including but not limited to any mandatory face to face
aWendance or online session par-cipatory aWendance.

• Demonstrate a reasonable aWempt on all assessment items. Students who have completed less than 100% of
the assessment will be subject to review by the College Assessment CommiWee which could result in failing the
Subject (F – Fail).
• Complete at least 80% of assessment requirements, as listed above.
• Failure to comply with the above will result in an F (Fail) Result.
Final results for this subject will be graded as described in the Student Results Policy.

Assessment aim: To present and analyse an internaRonal business case study.

Choose a case study from the textbook (Peng, 2017; 2023) or other source (with approval from
subject lecturer)

Provide an analysis of the case individually or as part of a group
•
Produce a PowerPoint, video or similar visual presenta(on of 10-15 minutes dura(on to report the
analysis

Provide an audio or wriTen narra(ve to complement and support the visual presenta(on (ask your
subject lecturer if unsure of the approach)
Your presented analysis, supported by the narra(ve, will at minimum:

Assessment aim: To test knowledge of interna(onal business (IB) concepts by asking students to explain
the theory and apply the concepts to a global business situa(on.
This assessment tests the students’ ability to assess cri(cally the advantages and merits, risks,
drawbacks, and challenges that a concept, approach or ac(on presents to interna(onal business.
Students are required to demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and applica(on of the

Submission and return of assessment
3.1 Submission of assessment
Submission of the assessment is covered under each respec(ve assessment items.
3.2 Late submissions
The Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedure (3.1.8d) outlines a uniform formula of penal(es
imposed for submission of an assessment item aker the due date. This formula is 5% of the total
possible marks for the assessment item per day including part-days, weekends, and public holidays. If
submiTed aker 20 days, the assessment item thus would be awarded 0 marks (i.e. 5% x 20 = 100% of
total possible marks in penal(es). For assessment items weighted 0%, and submiTed aker 10 days a DNS
(Did Not Submit) grade is awarded.
3.3 Special Considera-on (including deferrals and extensions)
You are encouraged to access equity measures if you are affected by extenua(ng circumstances while
undertaking the subject. JCU’s Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedure 3.1 requires that you must
make yourself available for assessments and examina(ons at the scheduled (mes and extensions or
deferrals for an assessment item due to previously scheduled commitments such as weddings or
holidays, will not be granted.
All Special Considera(on requests can be applied for through the Special Considera(on applica(on form.
The form is linked to the Special Considera(on Procedure and also available on the Student Forms
webpage.
3.4 Academic Integrity
As outlined in the Coursework Academic Integrity Policy and Procedure, you are are required to
complete the Coursework Academic Integrity Modules available in your LearnJCU site. Penal(es for
noncomple(on may be applied.
All non-examina(on items of assessment are required to be submiTed with the Assessment Declara(on
available through LearnJCU. The Assessment Declara(on contains statements rela(ng to academic
integrity under the Coursework Academic Integrity Policy and Procedures. All instances of academic
misconduct are treated very seriously by the University and students may be severely penalised for
commiong any form of academic misconduct.

3.5 Return of assessment
Submission of the assessment is covered under each respec(ve assessment items.
The requirements for an assessment’s return date, (me and manner will be determined by the Subject
Coordinator in line with the JCU Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures.
Feedback will be given, as per clause 3.5 of the Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures. You will
be informed of your grade for every component of assessment as per clause 3.5.1 and 3.5.2 of the
Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures. You can also request wriTen or verbal feedback from
the marker (see Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures 3.5).
3.6 Review of assessment
Assessment items and final grades will be reviewed through modera(on processes (Learning, Teaching
and Assessment Procedures, 3.6). It is important to be aware that assessment results “must always
undergo final ra(fica(on for each study period. No single grade or mark represents a final result in a
subject” (Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures, 3.7.4.).
Audio and/or video recording of assessment (e.g. oral assessment) may be used in this subject as per
the Learning Teaching and Assessment Procedure (3.1.5f) and will be securely stored in line with
Learning Teaching and Assessment Procedure (3.8.1).
Students can seek a review of individual assessment pieces through the process iden(fied in clause 3.8
of the Learning, Teaching and Assessment Procedures.
Students can seek a review of the final subject result through the process contained in the Review and
Appeal of a Final Subject Result Procedure.
