Two ships are sinking at the same time. BOAT ONE has four hundred passengers on board, all of them are unrelated to you. BOAT TWO has four persons on board, three of them are very close and dear to you. They're all pleading for your help. On the spot, you have been blessed with a one-time use teleportation power that can only transfer one ship to another location. So, saving both is out of the picture. Which ship would you rather save? I will give you 30 seconds to analyze the situation. Alright, let us hear your thoughts Student D. Teacher, this may sound selfish but I might lean towards saving the ship with the people I care about. The emotional attachment and sense of responsibility might compel me to prioritize the lives of those close to me. Great response, Student D. Yes, the personal connection might just outweigh the number of lives in this particular instance. That is one hundred percent acceptable. Next, I would like to hear what you think Student E. Teacher, I think if I were to ask those people who are boarded in BOAT TWO they would command me to save BOAT ONE as it is for the greater good, this choice will pretty much bloom into a bigger result. As much as I do not want to choose, well, there are just things that we need to prioritize and that is the overall happiness. Yes, teacher! An opinion is a judgment, viewpoint, or statement that is not conclusive, rather than facts, which are true statements. 5. Presentation Development Lesson of Excellent, Student E. I see you are quite the considerate one and I commend you for that. As you can see, class, there may not be a definite right or wrong response in this case. I am content to hear your thoughts and response to the circumstances, though. There are several factors that could have contributed significantly to your decision-making in this specific scenario, including your personal values, ethical standards, emotional ties, and how the choice will affect your own well-being. Regardless, all of your responses were excellent; keep it up because our topic basically involves continuously expressing your personal opinion. Are you guys ready? and Discussion the Class, today's discussion will center on how to formulate a statement of opinion or assertion. First, we have opinion. Do you have any idea what an opinion is, Student F? You can use your digital dictionary if you want to. Alright, you are absolutely right. Now, class, listen carefully as we proceed to the discussion a) Opinion is a statement of personal belief, feeling, or thought. Does not require proof. - Statements of opinion usually start with signal phrases such as I think or I believe and have words like best, worst, beautiful, outstanding, or should. - Statements of opinion have to do with one’s preference or emotions - An opinion sometimes is a judgment based on facts, an honest attempt to draw a reasonable conclusion from factual evidence. Example: 1. I believe Ben&Ben is the best band ever. 2. GMA’s Voltes V TV adaptation is outstanding. 3. I think my outlook in life was changed by the pandemic. Class, you take a look at your smartphones for a second. It is perfectly structured, right? It is functioning just fine, in fact, we could do anything we want with it, it’s magnificent. But you know what, behind that perfection, there goes the constant deliberation and exchanges of opinion to reach the finest product. If you start your business, you will start from scratch and then you develop your product with your co-workers by exchanging opinions. Just like how smartphones companies develop their products, from key pad to touchscreen. That is the power of exchanging opinion in marketing. Express it all! Now that you have a clear understanding of what an opinion is, let us have a little activity. Bring out ½ sheet of paper and then give your opinion about the following statement: 1. Should students wear school uniforms? 2. What is the best way to be happier? Possible Answers: 1. In my opinion, yes. Students should wear uniforms because it can promote equality among students and create a sense of belonging. They also remove the pressure of choosing outfits. 2. I believe in order to be happier we should cut ties to those who drags us down and maintain good relationship to those people who really cares for us the most. Great response, class. We can definitely move on now to assertion. Student I, will you give us the definition of assertion? You can use your smartphone to browse its meaning if you want to. You are absolutely correct about that, Student I. Listen now, as we dig deeper to the topic. b) Assertion a statement that many people assume to be true but which is not necessarily so. - Statements of assertion do not start with a phrase I think or I believe. - Statements of assertion are considered as declarations (the act of Assertion involves expressing beliefs, feelings and preferences in a way which is direct, honest, appropriate and shows a high degree of respect for yourself and for others. - making an official statement about something), as if they were true even though they may not be. It's a way of saying something with confidence or certainty. Example: 1. Doctors are the smartest people on Earth. 2. Milk is good for your body. 3. Taking vitamins everyday makes you healthy and strong. Have you ever experienced talking to a saleslady or a salesman? If you can observe, they use persuasion to sell their products to their customers. Student H, any idea about persuasion? You can use your phone to search it on the dictionary if you want to. As you can see class, persuading is like declaring about what you believe is true. Basically, when we are persuading someone, we make assertions in order for them to believe us. Just like our local saleslady/salesman, when they are promoting their products to us, they are describing their products as if it is the best product in the world. Alright, class. Let us have a little activity about assertion. Persuasion is like convincing someone to see things your way or to do something by presenting your ideas or arguments in a compelling and convincing manner. It's about influencing someone's beliefs or actions through reasoning, emotion, or other tactics. Possible Answer: Sell it! Assume that you are a saleslady or a salesman and you are about to approach a “Experience the ultimate boost with our energy drink!
