CSC 4610 Software Engineering
Elevator, Sliders, Interest/Influence Matrix
Points: 15
Due: Friday, February 10th, by 11:59 PM
In this lab, your team will do three activities:
● Create an elevator statement
● Use sliders to help develop priorities for the project
● Create an interest-influence matrix to identify stakeholders and their relationship to the
project
Concept Elevator Statement
Write elevator statement for your project using the following template
For <audience>
Who <statement of need>
The <project/product name> IS <classification of product>
That <description of product>
Unlike <named competing solution>
Our <description of distinguishing features>
An example is below:
For: students, advisors, departments (and/or faculty) and registrar
Who: need a convenient system to initiate, change and support an academic change of program
when coupled with appropriate academic advising,
The: Student Initiated Change of Program (SICoP) Is an Advising Management tool
That: provides efficiency to a process that currently has 36,000+ transactions annually.
Unlike: the tedious paper process that is limited to 8-5 transactions,
Our Solution: will provide 24/7 access, eliminate errors, introduce efficiencies, and track the
workflow (with proper notification to various stakeholders) of the change of program for a student.
Success Sliders
● Draw sliders for cost, scope, quality, and time on the whiteboard or flipchart
● As a team, define the ranking of importance for cost, scope, quality, and time. Note that no
two selections can be in the same column
Interest - Influence Matrix
● Individually brainstorm the different stakeholders that you believe will have an impact on
your project. In addition to including the organizational stakeholders, such as developers,
testers, managers, etc., identify stakeholders external to the organization such as customers,
end-users, regulators, etc.
● Use an affinity map to consolidate the stakeholder groups that your team has identified.
● Draw a matrix similar to the one shown below on a flip chart page and place your identified
stakeholder groups onto the matrix.
Put all of the information (elevator statement, success sliders, and interest-influence matrix) into a
PDF document and submit.
