James: Good day my fellow Student Council members! I would like to tell you about the project “Reach Out” which we will implement this School Year. This project aims to reach out Grade 5 learners who do not have gadgets or internet connectivity. Through this, we can guide them whenever they have difficulties in answering the modules or even increase their reading speed. Agnes: That’s very helpful! I know some learners who we can help through this project. With our joined effort, we can reach those students who are not guided by their parents specially when they are working. This project can also help our school in putting awareness to the community in which they can also help. But how do we do that? Lanie: We can divide our active volunteers into two. Jess, Alliah, and Micah can be the first group while Von, Ryza and Kit will be in the second group. Group A will provide assistance in the areas near the school. While, Group B will guide those learners who are outside the barangay but are enrolled in our school. Krizia: We can also take part in this project together with the teachers. We can provide reading materials such as novels like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, The Pyramid which are for kids. There are short stories like The Ant and Grasshopper, The Hare and the Tortoise and Three Little Pigs. Annie: That would be fantastic! I hope that this project can prosper so that we can also reach the barangay officials. They might offer us more help if we do it right and there might be more volunteers. We can also ask help from volunteers through social media. I’m so excited! Read the text below and answer the following questions in your notebook. 1. What is the text about?______________ 2. My first experience in cooking rice was funny. I remember putting four cups of rice in a cauldron or “kaldero” and completely filling it in with a water. Then I left to play outside. When I remember about what I was cooking about an hour later, I was shocked to see and smell something strange in the kitchen. 2. Batibot was a very popular children TV show in the 80’s. Children loved it especially because of its unforgettable characters which include Pong Pagong, Kikong Matsing, Kuya Derms, Noli De Casio, Irma Daldal, Manang Bola, and the curious aliens named Sitsiritsit and Alibangbang. 3. Why is vitamin C important to the body? People have seen that those who eat a lot of fruits that are rich in Vitamin C are healthier and seldom get sick than those who do not eat them. This is because Vitamin C makes the immune system stronger and protects the body against many diseases. 4. Foods can be classified into three groups based on how they function in the body. These are “Go Foods, Grow Foods, and Glow Foods.” Go Foods provide our body with energy so we can move and work. An example of this is rice. Grow Foods, on the other hand, allow our bodies to build muscles and fats and repair tissues. Eggs and meat are good examples in this type. The third type, Glow Foods, help protect the body against diseases and keep it health. Fruits and vegetables, which are rich in nutrients, belong to Glow Foods.
