The importance of Local Officers; A corps will make progress if it has local officer who are godly, wise and faithful. They will be respected in their own town and corps. They will be a help to the C.O, and the corps work will continue, even when officers change. ThINGS TO NOTE ABOUT LOCAL OFFICERSHIP Every Local Officer should want the Salvation Army in his corps to be known as a group of good people who follow the way of Christ No LO may cancel or organize a meeting without the CO permission. If a Local Officer wishes to give up his commission he should hand it to the corps Officer who will send it to the DC. ThINGS TO NOTE ABOUT LOCAL OFFICERSHIP A Local Officer is a Salvation Army soldier appointed to a position of special duty and trust in the corps They are an example of good Christian living and hardwork in Christian living and hardwork in God’s service They are chosen by the Corps Officer If the local Officer becomes careless or lazy, or does not behave as a Christian, he/she should not be allowed to continue in his position A Local Officer must understand that they are appointed to do the work, not just to hold the position and wear a badge QUALIFICATIONS a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. i. j. k. l. Obey the Christian law concerning marriage SENIOR DEPARTMENT Functions CORPS SERGEANT-MAJOR Responsible to assist the CO in public work and to help in meeting, assisting with announcements of future events and planning open air meetings and supervising marches. He/she should take charge if CO is away. He/she must have been a good soldier for a long time, be sensible and trusted. He/she works under the CO orders He/she should see that meetings begin at the right time.She should present on time and encourage others to do the same. CORPS SECRETARY Responsible under the CO for Corps business, corps records and meeting attendance numbers. He should have enough education to understand Corps business and money matters. Must be trustworthy and honest. CORPS TREASURER Responsible to the CO in looking after Corps money. He must be trustworthy and honest. He must know how to keep accounts. RECRUITING SERGEANT Responsible to the CO for looking after recruits, seekers and converts. He should love the souls of men. Good Salvationist and understand what the Army believes and teaches. CORPS CADET GUARDIAN Responsible to the CO to care for Corps Cadets and Candidates. He should know the Army well. Should be wise and able to teach must love young people. WELCOME SERGEANT Responsible in charge of seating the people, keeping the good order, welcoming strangers and giving out song books and reminding the duty of collectors of offering Responsible to the CSM in reporting the names and other info of the visitors, She must keep a visitors log book Lead the Ushers in becoming a responsible to their ministry. Take charge of the Hall Allow people to enter and leave the Hall only during singing See the people are quiet and orderly at the entrance to the Hall, welcome visitors with a friendly greetings and invite them to return. QUARTER MASTER Is responsible, under the corps Officer, for the care of the Hall and other Salvation Army propertt belonging to the corps. He/she should see that buildings are kept in good condition He/she take charge of the keys of the Hall, seeing that doors are open 20 minutes before the meeting begins. He/she should see that the Hall is kept clean. COLOUR SERGEANT Responsible to the CO for the corps flag. He/she must attend the meetings regularly and take the flag to open air meetings. He/she should carry the flag during special occasions such as dedication of children and swearing in of soldiers. He/she should do his best to keep the flag clean and in good condition. Must see that the flag is never lowered or placed on the ground. HOME LEAGUE DEPARTMENT HOME LEAGUE SECRETARY Responsible to the CO for running of the home league. She should be a good salvationist, who likes other women. Knows how to care for a family and is a good leader. HOME LEAGUE SECRETARY Ministry Description: This woman will serve as the leader for the Home League, the specific fourfold ministry of Women’s Ministries. She will ensure that all positions are filled and functioning. If necessary she may temporarily fill in for others, but should make every effort to recruit, train and assist local leaders to participate in successful fourfold programming including the elements of education, service, worship and fellowship. She should work with and report to the CO(s) responsible for WM programming and the WM Secretary. She should participate in the corps review by the division and assist in preparation of all materials for the review HOME LEAGUE SECRETARY She will coordinate the quarterly planning meeting for the Home League and for special events. She will work with the Women’s Ministries Secretary in scheduling and planning corpswide women’s events and fundraising efforts. She will attend Territorial and Divisional Leadership Institutes when possible and participate in continuous improvement of leadership for herself and others HOME LEAGUE TREASURER Responsible to the CO in looking after Home League money. She must be trustworthy and honest. She must know how to keep accounts. HOME LEAGUE TREASURER The Treasurer should keep the financial records. She will accept responsibility for all aspects of the finances, follow Salvation Army policy on handling funds, and work with the appropriate staff to assure that the records agree in corps financial statements. She will give a financial report to the group at least annually. Spiritual Gifts: Administration, giving LEAGUE OF MERCY SECRETARY Responsible to the CO for the League of Mercy- who are specially responsible to visit or help the sick, the aged and those in trouble. Where possibly they will visit hospitals or prisons. They will help in practical way possible to bring the message of God’s Love YOUTH DEPARTMENT YOUNG PEOPLE SERGEANT MAJOR Responsible to CO for all young people’s work except for corps cadet. JUNIOR SOLDIER SERGEANT Responsible to CO/YPSM for THE Junior Soldiers program. YP TREASURER Responsible to the CO/YPSM in looking after Youth money. He/she must be trustworthy and honest. He/she must know how to keep accounts. YOUTH SECRETARY Responsible to the CO/ypsm for running of the Youth program. She/he should be a good salvationist, who likes other youth. Knows how to care for a youth and is a good leader. RECORD SERGEANT Responsible to CO/YPSM for REGISTERS AND ATTENDANCE RECORDS YP Singing Company Leader/PAW Leader A Salvationist who is Responsible for the young people’s PAW Team. Responsible for proper decorum in singing/leading Praise and worship and can teach other to sing Spiritual care of Singing company members CRADDLE ROLL SERGEANT Responsible to link the new born children in the corps to the young people and to keep in touch with parents until children are old enough to attend the company meeting COMPANY GUARDS Responsible for the care and teaching of a company of children/Sunday school PAW MEMBERS/SINGING COMPANY Responsible in preparing the songs before every meeting Properly observed the proper decorum in every meeting He/she must be of good standing spiritually and morally.
