Simple Absorber
water
4.2 x 10-2 kgmol/s
• A tower is to be designed to absorb SO2 from
air at 293 K and 1.013 x 105 Pa abs pressure
by using pure water. The inert air flow is 6.53
x 10-4 kgmol air/s and the inert water flow is
4.2 x 10-2 kgmol water/s. The entering gas
contains 20 mol % SO2 and leaving below 0.1
mol %. Determine the flow rate and
composition of the gas and liquid leaving the
tower and the required number of
equilibrium stages.
• (Example 10.7-1, Christie John Geankoplis
C.J. Transport Processes and Separation
Process Principles (Includes Unit Operations).
4th Ed., 2003: 681-684).
Air = 6.53 x 10-4 kgmol/s
SO2 = 1.6325 x 10-4 kgmol/s
