Exam Syllabus
Topics to cover:
1. My School
Please be reminded that the focus of this topic is not the facts related to the School’s
history, but the historical skills and concepts. They include the following:
 Chronology
 Facts and opinions
 Evidence and its relevance
 Classification of sources
 Periodisation
Students are NOT required to memorize any details of school history in this chapter.
Students are advised to refer to the revision exercise.
2. Early Civilisation
 Development of Stone Age
 Meaning of civilisation
 Four centres of early civilisation
 Favourable factors for the development of civilisation
 Mesopotamia
3. Hong Kong Early Settlers
 Four major ethnic groups of early settlers in Hong Kong
 Major economic activities in early Hong Kong
 The five great clans in the New Territories
 Traditional Chinese buildings, activities and values (also the Ping Shan Heritage
Trail worksheet)
The factual information about the Ping Shan Heritage Trail, e.g. specific details of the
buildings (such as construction years), are NOT required. Students can focus on examples
that can illustrate the status, power, values, culture and tradition of the Tang clans.
4. Ancient Greece
 Introduction of Classical Civilisation
 Greek city-states and the Athenian government
 Greek gods and the Olympic Games
 Greek philosophy, literature, science, mathematics and architecture
Mark Allocation (roughly):

Remarks:
Revision should primarily be based on notes with the help of PowerPoint slides uploaded
to the subject folder. Students are also recommended to read relevant pages of textbook
for reference.
