Money makes the world go around
Many people ask themselves why is money so important. Money is the biggest medium of exchange in
the world. It can be imagined like a big piston in the engine that pushes the world, constantly. Without
money, people would have to resort to trading goods of different value directly. It would be really
difficult to approximate the value of some goods with other goods. That is where money comes into
play. It can be said it is universal, even though different countries have different currencies, which are
interchangeable. With money all the value can be determined with a number and people can
understand the price of something. If we imagine money doesn’t exist, in what goods could people get
their salary? We cannot give a person some other stuff, like property or some equipment, instead of a
salary, because not everyone wants the same thing. Some people may want food, others something
else. Money fixes all those problems. But the concept of a currency that can replace direct trade is not
perfect. If a person doesn’t have much money, they cannot just print more. The value of a currency can
drop if there is too much of it. Also, the distribution of wealth is not equal. About one percent of the
population has almost half of the planet’s wealth, but that is another problem. In conclusion, while
definitely not perfect, money does make a great replacement for trading different goods.
