How do we differentiate Morals and Ethics?

 View the dilemma from different perspectives
 Listen respectfully and overcome prejudices
5. Generate several options for solutions
 Clarify one’s reasoning
 Justify one’s decision
MORAL OR ETHICAL DILEMMA? (WE DO IT!)
Brainstorm and decide whether the
situation or scenario is an example
of a Moral or Ethical Dilemma and
explain why. Based your explanation
in the previous criteria.
SCENARIO 1:
Your busy schedule has kept you from really working on that science
research paper. It is due in two days, and you have only a rough outline of
what you are going to say.You need this paper to be good, to keep your
sports and activities schedule from suffering. You need more supporting
research. There is a web site that has “ready to use” research papers. In
fact, you have found one that would work for your paper.Your science
teacher is very busy with school business and doesn’t always check the
reports against online copies. Do you use the online copy to fit your
schedule, or do you make room in your schedule to write it yourself?
SCENARIO 2:
The CEO of a large corporation has been informed that
one of their products causes cancer in lab rats. The
mortality rate is low and the company has spent millions
on R&D and marketing. Recalling the product could mean
bankruptcy and thousands of lost jobs.
SCENARIO 3:
The president of a company knows that they are
dependent on doing business with another country that
has severe human rights violations. If they move out of
that market it will mean huge losses. If they stay, it means
putting money in the pockets of people that commit
crimes against humanity.
THINK FURTHER
 Have you experience a moral or ethical dilemma as a
student?
 What are your usual considerations in making decisions?
Why?
 What do you think is more important to consider in
making decisions? Morals or Ethics? Why?
PLENARY
