John McCampbell Armistice Day or Veterans Day Reflection “The nuclear bomb was terrifying, amazing, and not something I ever want to see again” (Derek Casady). Although they are Veterans, you would think that they want it to be Veterans Day but that's not necessarily true, they stand for peace. They want to change the day back to the original Armistice Day. Supporting peace, and not continuing in proxy wars. Casady hit home with the damages of water, climate damage, and the civilian “collateral damage”. This points towards going back to the Armistice Day, to encourage peace and to put government money towards social programs and education, rather than spending so much money on the defense budget. The Veterans for Peace support nuclear disarmament to save the planet from total destruction. Falchi believes that the doomsday clock is ticking, he thinks that if we don’t work towards peace, then war is inevitable. It is clear after hearing all the Veterans talk that they want to revert back to Armistice day. Armistice Day stands for peace, as well as supporting and healing Veterans and all those who are negatively affected by the war. Veterans Day stands to support the Veterans but it fails to acknowledge all of the civilian casualties, and it glorifies war more than it should be. As the doomsday clock ticks toward midnight it seems clear that the world needs to move towards peace rather than war, we need to heal and support those who have been through the atrocities of war. Armistice Day is a better representation of peace and healing than Veterans Day, and the holiday name should be reverted back.
