On that note, we can maybe project the idea of automatic thinking to our use of gen AI. It is recommended to use the automatic system when the stakes are low. Compared to my memo, chat GPT’s output is more professional and uses a richer vocabulary. And surprisingly it is not robotic, at least I can’t feel it. Even though I cannot see the difference between chat GPT’s output and the output of a good writer, maybe a skillful reader can spot the difference. It becomes a problem when the readers realize that they are communicating with a bot, which is different from the old human to human communication method. This disjunction might make the readers feel less important to the writer. And ultimately, communicating with AI generated memo (or other writings) might harm the credibility of the writer.
