HARAMAYA UNIVERSITY Freshman Program Directorate Logic and Critical Thinking assignment for Freshman Social science stream students Assignment (20%) Instructions Be sure that this is the group assignment with a group size ranging from a minimum of ten (10) members to a maximum of twelve members (12). All group members must actively participate equally in both assignments and have a thorough understanding of the assignment contents. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of the work. Carefully read both assignment questions and provide a thorough answer for each one. Use your own expressions and opinions, make sure you avoid plagiarizing other texts entirely/as it is. Be sure that your response to both assignments contains an introduction, body, and conclusion. Ensure that your response is unambiguous and devoid of language confusion. Be sure that there are two assignments. The first assignment is only presentation that will be presented after next week and the second assignment has both presentation and the accompanying paper work that will be presented and submitted after mid exam. Any attempt of cheating/copying will result in total cancellation of your result. Assignment 1 Group 1. Discuss thoroughly the concept of Critical Thinking and its Standards. Group 2. Identify and discuss the principles of good argument and critical thinking and support each point with relevant examples. Group 3. Describe the characteristics of critical thinkers and uncritical thinkers with supportive examples. Group 4. Identify and discuss the barriers to critical thinking and support each point with relevant examples. Group 5. Discuss the benefits of critical thinking through the lens of your personal experience as you have been observing the failure of critical thinking that leads to some socioeconomic and political problems in the country, and reflect on how it has significantly contributed to your personal development while you are living as a member of a family, community, and as a citizen of the country. Assignment 2 Instructions: The following issues are controversial in some respects. Each is expressed in the form of two alternatives (i.e. either good or bad ways). Select one of the alternatives for each conclusion, and then write down several reasons in your own reasoning apparatus that support it.
