Reading in Islam
The first thing that was revealed to our Noble Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, was
(Read in the name of your Lord who created), and here God Almighty commanded our Prophet
Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, to recite and explained its importance.
When God commanded reading, this is an indication of its importance and the great status it enjoys, as
it is the basis of the renaissance and progress of nations. Of course, it is enough that reading appeared in
the Holy Qur’an, and this is also sufficient for us to say that reading has great importance in Islam, and
for this reason, seeking knowledge is an obligation to achieve all... The goals that man wants with those
for whom he was created, which are worship and the development of the earth and its disputes.
It was narrated in the biography of the Prophet, that after the completion of the Battle of Badr, the
Muslims took a large number of polytheists prisoners, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon
him, stipulated that he could free every polytheist captive if he taught ten Muslims to read. This
indicates the importance of reading in The view of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him.
He said - may God bless him and grant him peace -: (It will be said to the one who recited the Qur’an:
Read, ascend, and recite as you recited in this world, for your status is at the last verse you recite).
