I am interested in applying for a Program Instructor position at your camp. I have
almost a decade of experience teaching reading, writing, and speaking skills at the
5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels in urban public schools in both Philadelphia, PA, and
Camden, NJ. I believe that my experience as an educator makes me uniquely
well-suited for this opportunity.
On your organization’s website, you emphasize your goal of helping young people to
be “real world ready,” and stress your focus on “building healthier communities,
stronger relationships, and supporting all people to realize their potential.” These
goals and priorities very closely align with my own as an educator.
To be an effective educator, I could not just be a subject matter expert for my students.
The middle-school years are a notoriously difficult time both for students and for the
educators who serve them. I have learned to build strong relationships based upon
mutual trust, respect, and flexibility so that I can better know my students and their
interests, strengths, and opportunities for growth. I can then leverage these
relationships to help guide students through the social and emotional difficulties of
adolescence, while also precisely tailoring instruction to give every student the high
expectations and learning supports that lead to academic achievement.
It is my hope to use my experience and interpersonal skills to be a compassionate,
responsive, and enthusiastic program instructor who will make a positive contribution
to your organization and to the young people you serve. I would welcome an interview
