Weidmann is thrilled to have the opportunity to write and publish a children’s holiday book which also delivers a valuable message about sustainability and the importance of electricity. More important though, is the opportunity to raise money through book donations to help children living in poverty. Our chosen charity is Children International, which helps children get the health care, education, life skills, training, and confidence they need to make a positive change in their lives. Your donations will help sponsor children who have grown up in poverty, discrimination, and isolation, with limited access to education and medical services. Please support vulnerable children to help them stay healthy and gain the skills they need to change their lives. The people from the nearby village and the tree folk had a long, proud tradition of supplying sustainable products across the world. I dream of becoming a cardboard box so I can travel to faraway places. I hope to be made into paper for an interesting book. 6 I wish to be made into a wonderful toy. However, one winter the trees learned a new way they could be transformed and contribute to a sustainable world. This is the story of how Grandpa Tree saved the holiday. 7 The winter celebrations were fast approaching, and the village was busy preparing for the festivities. All of the tree folk and townspeople were excited about the holiday tree-lighting ceremony. 8 This was an annual tradition where one special tree was chosen to represent the season and decorated with colorful ornaments, glittering strings, and lights. 9 The tree family thought their Grandpa would definitely be chosen this year as he was the oldest and grandest of all the trees. Although Grandpa had gone away on a journey, he was sure to be back in time for the tree-lighting ceremony. 10 On the day of the celebration, the town square was buzzing with activity and excitement, except for the littlest tree. She was waiting for Grandpa to return. 11 No one noticed that in the distance the skies had turned dark and grey. Then the wind started to blow cold and fast, and heavy snow fell across the village. The trees hunkered down and the townspeople ran for shelter. 12 When the storm ended, everyone came out to a beautiful snow-covered scene. But the storm and heavy snow had damaged the electricity network. There was no power, and Grandpa Tree was still missing. The decision was made to continue with the ceremony and Uncle Tree was chosen as the special tree to represent the season. 13 However soon it would be dark. How could they have the lighting ceremony without electricity? How could the townspeople keep warm in their houses at the end of the day? 14 In the distance, headlights caught the attention of the gathering crowd. “Look! There is a vehicle heading towards the village,” cried one of the trees. “It’s the utility line crew and they have a giant gray box on the back of their truck!” 15 Everyone wondered what was in the truck, but mostly they wondered what would become of the ceremony. 16 With heavy hearts, the tree folk and the townspeople were about to give up on the tree-lighting ceremony and go home in the darkness. 17 Then suddenly the lights came on! 18 The gray box was a new electrical transformer. The line crew got it up and running just in time. Everyone was celebrating! 19 Together the tree folk, the townspeople, and the line crew lit Uncle Tree to complete the annual ceremony. 20 The little tree shed a tear. I wish Grandpa was here. Then she heard a familiar voice calling out from the new transformer. 21 It was Grandpa! He was transformed into Transformerboard and he was inside the transformer – Grandpa had saved the day and would be lighting up the village for the festive season and for many years to come! 22 And this is the story of how a little village learned to value the importance of electricity and the power of the mighty sustainable trees, and how the little trees learned a new important way they could contribute to the world. Now they all dream of being Transformerboard when they grow up! 23 I dream of being an insulation component to help keep the lights on. I hope to be made into insulation paper for baby distribution transformers. 24 I wish to become Transformerboard, just like Grandpa. The End Weidmann Electrical Technology Founded in 1877 in a small Swiss village, Weidmann Electrical Technology invented Transformerboard in 1937. Transformerboard is a 100% sustainable product comprised of cellulose fibers and pure water that is combined in a proprietary process to produce a dense, mechanically strong, electrical grade material used to insulate the internal components of power and distribution transformers and associated accessories. Our cellulose fibers are sourced from FSC-certified sustainable forests, where trees are grown in far northern hemisphere cold climate locations. Still today, Weidmann produces Transformerboard in Switzerland along with other key locations around the globe, supplying the world’s leading manufacturers of transformers with the material they need to keep the lights on. It may be helping sort recycling at home, saving water by taking a shorter shower, or switching your bedroom light off every time you leave! Your ideas matter, and together, we can make a positive change for the environment. Let’s make our world a greener, cleaner, and happier place for everyone!
