Lecture 4 September 19, 2023 12:58 PM -------------------------------What is a narrative - telling a story from a perspective Could be: A biography, novel, article Narrative is a story Workshopping 1. IT has been recently discovered that black holes may be found at a galaxy's centre. For a long time, scientists always wondered what a black hole is and how it functions. This is a mystery that we are still trying to figure out. However, as technologies and our understanding of the universe increases, we learn more and more about black holes. One of the newest discoveries is that black holes may be at the centre of the universe, as well as the centre of a milky way. Scientists have a valid basis to assume that by observing stars and gases that could potentially be near the black hole, since black holes can affect them massively. There are still a lot of questions that need to be answered in order to solve the mystery of a black hole. Scientific article: This article tells a story about the origin of COVID. There is a cause and effect, in this case bats have COVID. Mainly, it tells the most probable cause of it, Horseshoe bats. It tells about how the virus was found in bats in different part of the world. Middle style rephrase: Over a year has passed since the appearance of COVID-19 pandemic. As time went on, people started wonderin g more and more about the origin or possible origins of COVID-19. Scientists believe that Horseshoe bats are the main cause for the pandemic since there is a sufficient evidence. Different sequences of SARS- Covid also were discovered in different bats. Scientists also think that COVID lineage circulates in a much wider area than reported in previous studies. Academic Writing Page 1 wider area than reported in previous studies. Different living things communicate differently. How example bees dance, humans speak. Human action is a species of action, symbolic action. Symbolism = language + thought processes, senses Narration: sequence of unfolding events in a story Narrative focuses on static time Workshopping: Narrative Time Time of the narrative: Recently, I started to recall when the COVID pandemic started a few years ago. We were told that we won't need to go to school for a few weeks, which turned into years. When you tell your story, the reader will always feel that something is off or doesn't add up. Therefore, all readers can have different perceptions of the same story. Topic for narrative: I want to write a narrative about something called PTG(Post-Traumatic Growth). I think it is very useful for people to see other peoples' struggles and how they survived the trauma to become a better(improved) person. What direction does it go to? I think I will start off by talking about personal stuff, struggles. Connecting them to the video/other person's story. While doing that, I would ask readers questions, so that they would think about them and connect their thoughts to mine. This narrative is probably going to be a self-help/awareness type style, where reader can take an example of me or person I am referring to and use our strategies to be better. It It also might be middle-low style. Maybe with a little bit a humour. Academic Writing Page 2 Academic Writing Page 3
