ED2950 Reflective Piece i. The learning gained in working as a student in a collaborative group. I think that working in a group for this assignment greatly increased my knowledge of the topic. A rather simple statement but it is honestly the truth. By working with others it allowed me to have a full grasp at the work in front of me with multiple new perspectives. One flaw of mine is that i can get awful tunnel vision when I sit down to do my work, so to hear multiple different ideas on how to approach the CBA was very helpful. One thing that we can often overlook as educators is fun, working together with the other members of my group was very enjoyable. It made the work much easier to do, working with others and getting out of the land of my study mix and a quiet room was a great breath of fresh air. It allowed me to look forward to the work rather than dreading it. ii. The skills and knowledge needed in the process of Enquiry, Exploration, Reflection & Action. I feel like the skills are very basic, each of us had to be able to research different headings for information on our chosen person of commitment. The skill of researching and finding the best source to display is something that we will need for the future. We must also have the ability to work together with others making sure everyone has delegated work. When reflecting together each of us hve to be honest and true with how much effort each of us put in. iii. The creativity encountered in presenting as a group. Working as a group allowed me to see the creativity of my peers. As I mentioned above, sometimes I can be quite linear in my approach to work. Interacting with my peers allowed me to see different ways to tackle the CBA. Working together allowed all of us to open up our creative skills, we all tried to put our best foot forward to impress one another which led to a top tier CBA. Bringing all our work together to present made for a very creative and unique CBA. iv. The challenges met in making a judgement on the level descriptors. There were many challenges when trying to decide the descriptors for each CBA. While using the rubric as a guide I found it increasingly difficult to distinguish between each of the CBAs I had to correct. In most of the factors, nearly all I was given made the Exceptional bracket for grade. But when comparing them to each other, I found it hard to justify them all being in the same category. They fit the mould based on the requirements but compared to other students some of the work was just exceptional. v. The opportunities that presented themselves in the SLAR meeting. I feel that the slar meeting offered me the chance to see how other people perceived the work that was in front of me. It showed me how others can judge compared to myself and it showed at times I maybe look too hard for the flaws instead of trying to reward the students' marks. It taught me that being an educator is not all about getting students to a grade, but encouraging them to create something worthwhile and meaningful to them.
