Monthly Reflection: Church Leadership
I find chapter 18 of our Minister’s handbook, entitled Church Leadership, as something
that goes with my point of view. The way how the church’s purpose is to be an active ingredient
in establishing God’s kingdom while looking forward to the glorious triumph of Jesus Christ’s
second coming serves as one of the primary reasons for our church’s dynamic growth. Also, as
mentioned in the handbook, the type of leadership that will be on a pastor’s checklist is the
servant leadership for it highlights the importance of humility, adaptability, and being a servant
to others. These are the traits a Christian should possess. This may sound simple, yet this can
also be a struggle. As a fallen being, we find ourselves to be selfish. Being a servant is contrary
to our nature. Yet with all of that being mentioned, we are redeemed by Christ and become
conquerors of our past selves through the power given by Him.
Another thing that I found relevant is the visioning concept. As a leader, you are leading
people. Without a vision then you, yourself, are moving without a destination together with
your people. I agree when our handbook mentioned that the absence of visioning leads to the
stagnation of the church for it will only repeat its past behaviors. This is one of the problems
our church is facing nowadays. There are a lot of churches that are stagnant and not far from
now, if they continue what they are doing, their church would die.
This is what I am trying to work out personally as a leader. I am making my visions clear,
first to myself and then to others, so that I have a specific goals and objectives that will guide
me and my teammates. By knowing what is my vision, then I may cast my vision to others as
well more successful.
