Comparative / Superlative
• Than is often used after a comparative adjective.
I’m younger than Barbara.
Barbara is more intelligent than Sarah.
• The is used before superlative adjectives.
Elephant is the biggest animal on lands.
Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world.
Comparative Adjective
• Compare one thing, person or action with another.
Tom is taller than Jerry.
Battambang is bigger than Siem Reap.
Pen is more expensive than pencil.
Superlative Adjective
• Compare somebody or something with the whole group (the groups
must have more than two members)
Tom is the tallest student in his class.
The blue whale is the largest animal on Earth.
As…as
• As…as shows that something is the same or equal
Ex: I am as tall as my brother.
This book is as expensive as that book.
• Not as…as shows that something is not the same or
equal
Ex: She isn’t as tall as her mother.
He isn’t as smart as me!
