DATA THAT HAS BEEN CONVERTED INTO MEANINGFUL RESULT RIGHT KIND OF DERIVED FACT MADE AVAILABLE TO A USER OF DATA AT THE RIGHT TIME AND RIGHT FORM FOR DECISION MAKING INFORMATION SHOULD FACILITATE THE DECISION MAKERS IN MAKING THE RIGHT DECISIONS AT RIGHT TIME EXAMPLE : 5,6,9, IS DATA, WHERE 5*6*9 IS INFORMATION Characteristics of Information MEANINGFUL – INFORMATION MUST BE MEANINGFUL TO THE USER. FOR INSTANCE, IF THE FORMAT/WORDS USED ARE UNFAMILIAR THEN IF BECOMES DIFFICULT FOR THE END USER TO COMPREHEND OR MAKE USE OF THAT INFORMATION. BREVITY – INFORMATION SHOULD BE CONCISE AND EXACT USE OF WORDS IN WRITING/SPEECH MUST BE USED. A MANAGER MUST BE GIVEN THE REPORTS IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE MAIN AGENDA IS PROPERLY HIGHLIGHTED. Characteristics of Information TIMELINESS – INFORMATION RECEIVED SHOULD BE ON TIME AND LATEST INFORMATION SHOULD BE AVAILABLE. EXAMPLE A RESERVATION SYSTEM ACCURACY – INFORMATION SHOULD BE ACCURATE IN ALL ASPECTS, IT SHOULD BE FREE FROM INCONSISTENCIES(IT SHOULD BE LOGICAL AND ERROR FREE ) Characteristics of Information NON REDUNDANT – REDUNDANCY REFERS TO DUPLICATION. INFORMATION GIVEN TO THE HUMAN SHOULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. RELIABILITY – INFORMATION GIVEN TO THE USER MUST BE RELIABLE BECAUSE BASED ON THAT CERTAIN IMPORTANT DECISIONS MUST BE TAKEN Characteristics of Information • RATE OF TRANSMISSION – THE RATE OF TRANSMISSION OF INFORMATION FROM THE SENDER TO THE RECEIVER SHOULD BE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGH FOR TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING THE INFORMATION.
