In-Text Citations
Full quotations must include the author, year, and page number. Here are three
acceptable ways:



According to Smith (2011), "Direct quotes must include in-text citations" (p.10).
"Direct quotes must include in-text citations" (Smith, 2011, p.10).
Smith (2011) states, "Direct quotes must include in-text citations" (p.10), in every
paper.
Paraphrasing must include the author and year, the page number is recommended but
not required:


Using in-text citations is critical when quoting an author (Smith, 2011).
Smith (2011) stresses the importance of using in-text citations when quoting
directly.
Any facts, dates, or knowledge not considered common must be cited.
