GMO
GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS
SCIENCE PROJECT

INTRODUCTION
A GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISM
(GMO) IS AN ORGANISM WHOSE DNA HAS
BEEN MODIFIED IN THE LABORATORY IN
ORDER TO FAVOUR THE EXPRESSION OF
DESIRED PHYSIOLOGICAL TRAITS OR THE
PRODUCTION OF DESIRED BIOLOGICAL
PRODUCTS.
QUESTIONS
• CAN GMO HELP THE ENVIRONMENT?
• YES, GMOS REDUCE THE NUMBER OF PESTICIDES THAT
NEED TO BE SPRAYED, WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY
INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF CROPS AVAILABLE TO BE
EATEN AND SOLD.
• WHAT WAS THE FIRST GMO MADE?
• THE FIRST GMO PRODUCE CREATED THROUGH GENETIC
ENGINEERING A GMO TOMATO BECOMES AVAILABLE
FOR SALE AFTER STUDIES, IN 1994
PICTURE OF GMO
• CORN IS THE MOST COMMONLY
GROWN CROP IN THE UNITED
STATES, AND MOST OF IT IS GMO.
MOST GMO CORN IS CREATED TO
RESIST INSECT PESTS OR TOLERATE
HERBICIDES.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF GMOS
• GMO FOODS ARE DESIGNED TO BE HEALTHIER AND CHEAPER TO PRODUCE. ADVANTAGES OF GMO
FOODS INCLUDE ADDED NUTRIENTS, FEWER PESTICIDES, AND CHEAPER PRICES. DISADVANTAGES OF GMO
FOODS CAN BE ALLERGIC REACTIONS OR INCREASED ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE.
OPINION
IN MY OPINION, WE SHOULD INCREASE THE GMOS BECAUSE, FOR
EXAMPLE GMO CROPS GROWN TODAY WERE DEVELOPED TO HELP
FARMERS PREVENT CROP AND FOOD LOSS AND CONTROL WEEDS
SUMMARY
GMO HELPED US IN OUR LIFE BUT AS ANY
NEW TECHNOLOGY IT HAS ADVANTAGES
AND DISADVANTEGES THAT WE HAVE TO
BALANCE BETWEEN TO GET THE MOST
BENEFIT.
