INTRODUCTION
The Ondo-State Radio-vision Corporation established a Booster station at IfakiEkiti to boost signals to the Northern part of Ekiti State. The booster station was
not functioning then due to lack of spare parts
By the middle of October, 1996 when Ekiti State had been carved out of the former
Ondo-State, Civil/Public Servants had started reporting for duty in AdoEkiti. About 185 members of staff (cutting across all the Work Departments) of
the former Ondo-State Radio-vision Corporation were deployed to the
Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State.
As a result of lack of office accommodation for BSES staff, a private residence
located at 2 Fasuan Cresent, Similoluwa Area, Ado-Ekiti was used as
Administrative Office and News Room. When the private residence could no
longer accommodate the 185 workers, Ado-Ekiti Local Government released its
Okeyinmi Office for BSES.
It was jubilation galore when on the 14th of February, 1997 barely four months
after the creation of the State, the great people of Ekiti heard the voice of Ekiti on
air. The dedicated group of workers, particularly, in the engineering section
worked day and night to make the old booster station at Ifaki ready for
transmission.
On the 22nd of May, 1999, the FM radio station dubbed “Golden Voice of Ekiti”
and the television station named “Station of Creativity” were commissioned. The
two stations, sited at Ilokun, Ado-Ekiti were declared open by the then Military
Administrator Navy Captain Atanda Yusuf. The EKTV on U.H.F Channel 41 and
EKFM 91.5 have since that time not relented in the efforts to entertain, educate,
enlighten and inform the people of Ekiti State.
AIM OF INDUSTRIAL VISIT
The excursion to EKITI State TV Station was organized as part of our institution's
efforts to enhance the practical knowledge and understanding of students in the
field of telecommunications. The visit aimed to provide an immersive experience
for students to observe and learn about the inner workings of a state of the art
television broadcasting facility.
OVERVIEW OF ACTIVITIES
Upon arrival at EKITI State TV Station, we were warmly welcomed by the
station's staff members. They provided a brief introduction about the station's
history, objectives, and their role in serving the community through informative
and entertaining television programming.
FACILITY TOUR
The students were taken on an extensive guided tour of the entire broadcasting
facility. The tour included visits to the following areas:
A. Production Studios:
We students were able to witness the live production process of various television
programs. They observed the operation of professional cameras, lighting
equipment, and sound systems. The production staff explained the importance of
teamwork, coordination, and technical expertise required for successful television
production.
B. Control Room:
The control room visit provided insights into the complexities involved in
coordinating live broadcasts. The students learned about the role of directors,
producers, and technical operators in managing the flow of programming and
ensuring seamless transmission.
C. Transmission Room:
The visit to the transmission room offered an understanding of the intricacies
involved in signal processing, encoding, and transmission. The technicians
explained the technologies used to ensure reliable and high-quality broadcasting to
the viewers.
D. Newsroom:
We students had the opportunity to visit the newsroom and witness the fast-paced
environment where journalists, editors, and producers work together to deliver
accurate and timely news updates. They gained insights into news gathering, story
selection, and the overall news production process.
E. Power generation: We were taken to the point where the power supply to the
station, where a generator of 135kva voltage power capacity is been implanted and
it is fuel with diesel
F. Antenna: During our tour round the station we were opportune to see the
Antenna which served the purpose of transmission and receiving of information
from space (ether) or air, we were told this particular antenna has seven rings
which makes up of both the FM and some for AM
INTERACTIVE SESSIONS
To further enrich the learning experience, interactive sessions were arranged with
professionals from various departments. The students had the chance to engage in
discussions and ask questions related to their areas of interest. The professionals
shared their experiences, provided career guidance, and emphasized the importance
of continuous learning in the rapidly evolving field of telecommunications.
CONCLUSION
The excursion to EKITI TV Station proved to be an valuable experience for we
students. It not only enhanced their theoretical knowledge but also provided a realworld perspective on the functioning of a modern telecommunication facility. We
believe that this visit has inspired the students and stimulated their interest in
pursuing careers in the field of telecommunications.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the management and staff of
EKITI STATE TV Station for their hospitality, valuable insights, and efforts in
making this excursion a resounding success. We hope to maintain a continued
partnership between our institution and your esteemed organization for future
endeavors that promote educational excellence.
