THE IMPORTANCE OF THE COURSE
“Academic Writing” is designed to improve the academic writing skills of is designed to
develop and sharpen your academic and professional writing skills and strategies sophomore
students in English. Although the primary aim of this course involves helping you build your
proficiency and confidence as a writer of English, we will also devote time and efforts to improving
your writing, reading, critical reasoning, and research skills. The course combines a process
approach to writing with a practical approach to teaching the basics of writing. During the course,
the students will be working on invention, peer response, editing, revising and writing multiple
drafts.
II. THE AIM OF THE COURSE
By reading assigned materials and preparing for class, participating actively in classroom
tasks, and completing assignments, you will be able to:

Apply genre awareness by understanding texts, contexts, and the roles of readers and
writers;

Gather reliable and useful information for writing by conducting effective searches;

Summarize, paraphrase, and quote effectively from authoritative sources;

Reproduce selected scientific and professional genres, including digital texts, summaries,
abstracts, and critical reviews;

VII. REQUIREMENTS FOR OBTAINING CREDITS
1. Complete mastery of theoretical and methodological concepts of science, the ability to
accurately reflect the results of analysis, independent observation of the studied processes
and the implementation of tasks and assignments in the current, intermediate forms of
control, the submission of written work on the final control.
VIII. DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENTS
Mid-term (40%)
In order to take Mid-term exam students, have to participate in the classes and do
homework.
In the mid-term exam students are required to write a paragraph on a given topic.
The paragraph is evaluated by the following criteria:
Content – 10
Grammar mistakes-10
Spelling -10
Structure – 10
Topics for writing a paragraph:

Final exam (60%)
In order to take Mid-term exam students have to participate in the classes and do homework.
Students are required to write an essay on any topic. Their work is evaluated by the
following criteria:

Word limit - 5
IX. METHODS, CRITERIA, AND PROCEDURE OF ASSESSMENT:
The procedure for evaluating students' knowledge is determined based on the academic
policy of "DIPLOMAT UNIVERSITY" and the requirements of the Regulation on academic
evaluation.
Procedure for implementation of assessments.
Mid-term exam: It is conducted in oral form based on the topics covered.
Final exam: A test will be conducted on the topics covered during the semester.
The dates of the mid-term and final examinations are organized on the basis of the
schedule of the educational process approved in a particular academic year.
Note: The types, forms and number of assessments may be changed during the following
semesters based on the decisions of the department meeting.
