Content will be the focus of the assessments. Typically, 2-3 well developed paragraphs will suffice, though some prompts might demand shorter or longer responses. When responding to readings, make sure to avoid summary and to foreground your own ideas and analyses. Late Submission: In order to be fully credited for submissions, make sure all work is submitted in timely fashion. Submission drop boxes are typically closed after several weeks. All late submissions (weekly submissions and essays) are subject to penalty. Essay submitted a week or more late will receive submission credit but cannot be graded. Grading: Grading rubrics are not used. Weekly homework submissions are typically worth 5 points each. Essay values vary depending on the project; research project carries more weight. All submissions – the main focus of assessment will be strength of content and support as well as logic of argument and depth of analysis. Strong grammar can significantly impact credibility of submissions. Numerous and serious grammar errors can affect essay grades. Revisions: Revisions are permitted for essays 1-3. There is no revision for essay 4/research project because of time constraints. Weekly HW/submissions are not subject to revisions. Revision due date: no more than two weeks after initial submissions are returned to students. Revision grading, essay 1: only the higher grade will count. Revision grading, essays 2-3: average of the two grades. Revision notes: 1. An effective revision addresses support and development matters raised in earlier submission. 2. Student should address writing/grammar issues, though the grade is primarily affected by content changes. 3. Revisions can be submitted by reusing the original essay drop box.
