This worksheet explores the concept of an entrepreneur or an employee, the characteristics of an entrepreneur and the idea of starting a business. This leads to the holding of an Entrepreneur’s Day at the school. Vocabulary entrepreneur, skills, characteristics, employee, organisation, business, product, service, communication Main Activity Discuss the various vocabulary terms listed under ‘vocabulary’ that will be used in this lesson and reinforce the vocabulary that the learners are unfamiliar with. Have a discussion about entrepreneurs and employees. Are they really different? The class then completes Activity 1: ‘An entrepreneur or an employee?’ Make a list that distinguishes between the two. The learners now work on Activity 2: ‘What are the characteristics of an entrepreneur?’ Define characteristics and skills. (They are used interchangeably in this worksheet). Explain the concept of mind mapping with branches and keywords. In this instance, we are looking for at least three keywords to further define each characteristic, but more characteristics can be added. After this, the learners progress to Activity 3: ‘Start your own group business.’ This is a preparation for Entrepreneur’s Day which you need to organise for later in the term. It might be better to let the learners choose their own groups or partnerships for this. Handle this delicately so that no-one feels left out. Let them brainstorm ideas for a business together and then elaborate on the best idea.
