Background
An entrepreneur is someone who sees an opportunity to make money and turn it into a business. This worksheet explores the concept of
an entrepreneur or an employee, the characteristics of an entrepreneur and the idea of starting a business. This leads to the holding of an
Entrepreneur’s Day at the school.
Vocabulary
entrepreneur, skills, characteristics, employee, organisation, business, product, service, communication
Main Activity
Discuss the various vocabulary terms listed under ‘vocabulary’ that will be used in this lesson and reinforce the vocabulary that the
learners are unfamiliar with.
Have a discussion about entrepreneurs and employees. Are they really different? The class then completes Activity 1: ‘An entrepreneur or
an employee?’ Make a list that distinguishes between the two.
The learners now work on Activity 2: ‘What are the characteristics of an entrepreneur?’ Define characteristics and skills. (They are used
interchangeably in this worksheet). Explain the concept of mind mapping with branches and keywords. In this instance, we are looking for
at least three keywords to further define each characteristic, but more characteristics can be added.
After this, the learners progress to Activity 3: ‘Start your own group business.’ This is a preparation for Entrepreneur’s Day which you
need to organise for later in the term. It might be better to let the learners choose their own groups or partnerships for this. Handle this
delicately so that no-one feels left out. Let them brainstorm ideas for a business together and then elaborate on the best idea.

Activity 3: Start your own group business
An entrepreneur might have all the right skills, but he or she needs a good idea for a
product or service that other people are prepared to pay money for. Let’s prepare for
an Entrepreneur’s Day at your school. Work in a group and brainstorm some ideas
for a product or service that you can sell on Entrepreneur’s Day. When you have
completed your brainstorm, vote for the best idea and think about how you will be
able to make money from that idea.
