Good luck! The Journey to becoming Critical Reading has always been my first love, I never thought that engaging in this subject would make me fall in love with it more. Critical reading, writing, and thinking is a course that created an impact in my life by enabling me to understand and gain a wider perspective when it comes to tackling the issues in the texts that I am reading. This subject has paved the way for my analytical skills to become better. I was able to understand complicated reading materials by slicing down details piece by piece. Aside from this, I have learned to question the text that I am reading and not just agree with what the author wanted to inculcate to its audience. I was able to take into consideration alternative perspectives of others and try to integrate their perspective into mine. Aside from these, I have learned how to fact-check. When I encountered this subject, my trust issues became stronger and I always have to fact-check and find a credible source for the articles that I am reading. I wasn't able to just learn how to read and analyze. This subject has taught me to create connections with other people by enabling me to write comprehensively. I was also able to write better essays, one that has clarity, cohesiveness, and conciseness. I was able to put myself in the shoes of the authors and was able to gain an understanding of what they wanted to inculcate in the minds of their readers. Aside from learning objectively, I was able to introspect with my past works, comparing them with the essays I have done recently, I was able to sort out my biases and assumptions which I believe led to personal growth in the area of writing. I feel empowered as I can finish this course, and I am confident enough to say that I was able to become a reader and a writer who thinks and writes critically. I believe that through this course, I can properly articulate my thoughts with persuasiveness and confidence. This course is one of the cornerstones that would allow me to flourish as an individual. It was able to craft me to become a better student than my yesterday self and helped me embody a critical reader, thinker, and writer. As a Physical Therapy student, I believe that having this subject is vital as there are many cases in my line of work, cases in which I have to comprehend and critically think to find out the problem. I will have patients and comprehensively think about their plan of care, which I could do better now that I was able to take this course. This subject was able to contribute to my academic success, personal growth and professional achievement as early as now. In our changing world where false information is highly prevalent, having the skill of being able to critically understand the things you are reading is highly important. As Francis Bacon said “Read not to contradict and confute; nor to believe and take for granted; nor to find talk and discourse; but to weigh and consider.”
