Background
Maternal mortality refers to deaths due to complications from pregnancy or childbirth. From 2000 to
2017, the global maternal mortality ratio declined by 38 per cent – from 342 deaths to 211 deaths per
100,000 live births (UNICEF et.al 2019).
• Globally, thousands of women die annually from complications during pregnancy, childbirth, or
postpartum period, with most deaths occurring in developing countries These trends over the past
decades had been adjudged as unacceptable, as it remained a problem of public health importance
necessitating the attention of all stakeholders in maternal and child health care(Sageer et al., 2019)
Statement of the problem
• Somali women suffer from one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the
world. Somalia characterizes a specific low-income country situation with a mix of newly
urbanized and nomadic culture combined with a frail health care infrastructure set in a
post conflict era. Very little is known about the effects that these contextual factors can
have on
maternal mortality(Aden et al., 2019)
Justification of the study
Policy
• This study finding will able to be beneficial to the Governments that involved
health
care will helps to set policies to improve knowledge and change practices of maternal
health and also develop health education and trains prevention and management of
maternal related issue to reduce mortality, morbidity and to assure possibility of reducing
spread of maternal mortality in the country and economic impact of the country and to
fulfill the requirement of the people and availability of revenue

• This study finding can provide community education and knowledge experience and this
could help the prevention risk factors associated maternal mortality

• This study will improve the way many of our community practices, when it comes
maternal, it motivate the community the important of visiting antenatal care and postnatal
care

• Study design
This is study will adopt a cohort retrospective study design
Study site
Galkacyo is located in central Somalia in the heart of the mudug region it has population
estimated around 540,500 people both North and southern of the city.

Target population
• The study population will be mothers who died factors associated maternal mortality
between June 2021 to June 2022 and I will be select Regional hospital located in
Galkacyo Puntland Somalia.
