Ancheta, Anna Ruzzell Camarao, Maria Ellaine Mae De Vera, Joshua Jiro Tamayo, Mae Antonette Dr. Ignatius Anagbogu Section 230 Reading, the Most Dangerous Game By Harold Brodkey Reading the article about “Reading, the most dangerous game” opens our minds, so that we can learn so many things just by reading books. However despite that, there is also a negative side to reading, which is that we can’t stop reading until we finish a book. We forget to go out of our room, eat, and even sleep. When we read books, we seem to reverse factual things presented to us just to say that it makes sense when in reality it does not make sense, and by doing that, we seem to patronize the idea of fraud. In all of the countries, like Europe, it is well known that their foundation is so deep into their culture. So, there is a chance that when they are reading a book they aren’t easily influenced because they know about their culture, but for us, we are easily influenced even by just reading. We easily believe in what they are saying or writing. We are not looking deeper if there is a truth or not to them. Reading books are known to have a benefit on a person. However, there is still danger in reading. As per Harold Brodkey in his article, he said that reading is a dangerous game. the danger of reading lies in its ability to change the reader because of its ideas that you might absorb while reading. If a reader is not at risk, he is not reading. And if a writer is not at risk he is not writing. A good writer will have a connection with its reader when he reads the book. Either he will be in love, hurt, or have a lot of emotions. Concentration, focus, and understanding is necessary when you read. So the better the book you read, the more you might get sane with the book. The more you connect with the book. the more it develops the mind. The reading made the people believe that they do hold certain perspective and principles that they defend for years. But when defending these principles will threaten their life, they will change their principles or perspective respectively. If the book we are reading that does not give us the feeling of excitement and thrill into reading it more, we are not actually reading. For reading should move us into places in our minds where want to be. Reading should give us the satisfaction our soul craves. When we are reading, we have this imaginary commitment to the book—the events, the setting and most importantly, the characters. It gave us the different moods and emotions that made us feel what we thought we would not feel because we don’t have any idea about it. Reading is all about adventure—from your mind to other authors’ mind. It establish connections of stories where it will put you at risk. A person may use the ideas into new perspectives that might change their belief and trigger them to ignite the resting fire within. A person might be longing for love and when he reads a book, he might realize that he doesn’t want to be in love. Who knows what can reading affect into one’s life? Reading could save them through a lot of questions going in their mind and the line from a book might be the answer. Reading is awakening the deeper voices in our minds that may put us through different risks. It might be a gun bullet that shoots up right in front of our mind to know something. Indeed, reading is the most dangerous game for we don’t know what danger it could bring or how that danger will directly affect us. In my own experience, when I read a book I always wanted to my attention to it like it’s the only thing I want to do. I laugh with the character in it and I cry with them as well. They are giving me this kind of new world to live in where I get to see different perspective of a person that I can relate myself with in a lot of aspects. It simply brings me joy and sadness that I never ask them to give but that what’s make it a good book. If the book connects with the reader, it is a must read.
