PLAYWRIGHT:
The actors their delivery enhance the intended atmosphere of the scene
While most of the words worked well, I noticed that a particular monologue felt out of place in
the tragedy reading. I'll consider rephrasing it or moving it to a different part of the scene.
ACTING:
I will play the role of Smirnov in this scene.
1. Smirnov's Goal:
Smirnov's goal in this scene is to collect the debt that Mrs. Popov's late husband owes him. He
wants to secure the financial resources he needs to improve his own financial situation.
2. Obstacle:
The obstacle Smirnov faces is Mrs. Popov's recent loss and her emotional state. Her grief and
distress have made it challenging for Smirnov to approach her about the debt. Her emotional
state stands in the way of him achieving his goal.
3. Tactic:
Smirnov will use the tactic of showing empathy and understanding towards Mrs. Popov's
situation. He softens his approach and offers her some time to gather the funds, knowing that
her emotional state is a barrier. His action includes expressing sympathy and patience while
discussing the debt.
4. Smirnov's Super Objective:
Smirnov's super objective, or overarching desire, is likely to secure his financial stability and
future well-being. Collecting the debt from Mrs. Popov is just one step toward achieving his
broader financial goals.
C) Understanding this information will help me approach my character with a deeper
understanding of their motivations and actions:
III. THEATRE SPACES:
I believe the "Proscenium" space would work best for The Boor.
This space is suitable for "The Boor" because it allows for a clear distinction between the stage
and the audience, which aligns with the play's style and conventions.
IV. SCENERY:
The set is non-realistic, emphasizing symbolism and abstraction.
What mood do you want to convey?
The mood should be a blend of comedy and absurdity.
What colors will best help you set the tone you want?
Vibrant and contrasting colors to enhance the visual impact.
Time & Location:
Time period – Late 19th century Russia.
Location – Mrs. Popov's drawing room.
Time of day – Late at night.
Central Image:
The central image is a massive, surreal, oversized handkerchief hovering above the stage,
representing the characters' emotional baggage and the absurdity of their conflicts.
Casting:
Mme. Popov: My sister Gwendolyn
Smirnov: Me
Gwendolyn embodies the vivacious and dynamic personality of Mme. Popov, adding a
contemporary flair to the character. My versatility and charisma make him a suitable choice for
Smirnov.
I expect the costumer to create costumes that blend the characters' traditional late 19thcentury attire with modern elements, reflecting the unique personality and style of the chosen
actors. Visuals and sketches will help convey the desired look.
