Resource Type
Description
Work
Associated with and tracked by time. Allows
cost to be tracked. Can be people (listed as
individuals or consolidated groups) or
equipment.
Material
Assigned by quantity rather than time.
Gravel, paper, concrete, and paint are
examples of material resources.
Cost
These resources are based on costs without
time or quantity consideration. Can include
travel costs, costs for building permits, or end
of project celebration costs.

Baseline Plan
Interim Plan
Once your plan is completed, and
before work has started, set a
baseline.
Saves current start and finish dates
Can be used as a project marker.
The baseline plan will give you the
ability to track the project’s progress
against your original plan.

each project plan file.
• One for the external customer;
another for the internal team
• Preparing for a risk event.
• Accommodating a big change
request.

LESSON 2: WHAT IS SLACK?
Slipping Tasks
Tasks that have a forecasted finish
date that is greater than the baseline
finish date.
They may be scheduled to start late,
have already started late or are taking
longer than planned.
Late Tasks
The task is running behind the baseline
start and finish dates.
The task may have not started, has
started on time but will finish late,
started early but will finish late, or
finished late.
