Specialist Tools: Hazards: Mechanical Rotating Parts Environmental Oil and grease on the floor. Waste material on the floor. Don’t Do 1. General Obstructions in the working area. Machine swarf. Sharp edges on machined materials Ensure all guards or safety devices are fitted, functioning, and in position. 2. Clear the operating area of the machine from any obstruction. 3. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped, and where necessary packing is used. 4. Select the correct drilling bit. 5. Check for visible damage. 6. Report any mechanical/electrical defects immediately to your supervisor. 7. Ensure the work area is kept clean and tidy. 8. Wear approved eye protection. 9. Keep hands well clear of drill and materials during drilling. 10. Keep a firm grip on the machine at all times. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Remove guards whilst the Drill is in operation. Remove the swarf by hand. Clean the machine while running. Wear loose clothing, jewellery when operating drill. Check and examine work whilst the drill is operating. Put a finger into a freshly drilled hole. Training requirements Induction by a competent person.
