My Dearest Children, As you may or may not have known, I had invested our money into stocks to hopefully give you a better future. I was hoping to get enough money to support our family for the rest of your life. In the early parts of this year, this had gone so well. The economy was booming, and the stock market seemed to be on the rise forever. I was hopeful I would be able to provide for and improve our family’s life. A house. A car. Tuition for you. Sadly, as I took this risk, it came back to bite me.. In September (of 1929), the prices of stocks crashed, and I was forced to sell my stocks. I am so sorry that I was foolish and greedy enough to risk everything for money, and in turn left us with nothing. I will never be able to forgive myself. This will test our character and perseverance, but I have faith that we will emerge stronger on the other side. We must support one another, find strength in our family bonds, and face the challenges ahead with courage. I love you both so much, and I promise that we will get through this. I love you. With Love, Your Father
