Reason: To change Paragraph 1 to show the updated oil tank information. Paragraph 1 is changed as follows: 1. General The oil tank is mounted on the right-hand outside of the fan by-pass housing. The tank is equipped with a coarse screen at the oil suction intake. The tank is also equipped with a liquid level (sight glass) gage to check oil quantity and a filler plug. [3-1D, 3-1H, 3-1J, 3B-100S, 3C-100S], [3-1C, Post SB TFE731-79-3077] A filler tube with a filler plug on the left side of the engine provides a means of filling the oil tank on engines mounted such that the oil tank filler plug is inaccessible. [3A-2B, 3A-3B, 3C-3B], [3-1C, Pre SB TFE731-79-3077] A filler tube with liquid level gage (filler plug and dipstick) on the left side of the engine provides a means of checking oil level and filling the oil tank on engines mounted such that the oil tank sight gage and/or filler plug are inaccessible. [3-1F, 3-1K] An auxiliary fill tube with integral liquid level gage and a filler plug is mounted on the lefthand side of the engine to provide a means of checking oil level and filling the oil tank on engines mounted such that the oil tank liquid level gage and filler plug are inaccessible. The oil tank installation includes all of the connecting tubes and elbows, as well as the oil tank. [3-1E] Oil storage components are not part of the engine. Refer to the Aircraft Maintenance Manual. [3-1J] The oil tank required for inverted flight contains a vent system that has the capability of venting from either the top or bottom of the tank as a function of attitude. The switching of the vent functions from the top vent pickup to the bottom vent pickup during inverted flight is accomplished with a gravity sensitive check valve. The check valve contains steel balls within the valve housing. Proper functioning of the vent valve may be checked, with the oil tank removed from the engine, by rotating the tank from the normal flight position to an inverted flight position. Each time the tank is inverted a distinctive “clunking” sound should be heard, which indicates that the valve is operational. UP784438 [3-1J] Any solvent or water flushing of the tank for removal of contaminants should be directly followed by an oil flush (filling and draining) with clean, approved engine oil, to prevent corrosion of the gravity valve balls if the tank will not be immediately returned to service. 79-10-00 © Honeywell International Inc. Refer to Figure 208 for component location in the following procedures. [Post SB TFE731-79-3057] Repair leakage around oil tank liquid level gage (107) as follows. CAUTION: (1) (2) WHEN PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING STEP ENSURE TAPE IS INSTALLED OVER LENS OF LIQUID LEVEL GAGE AND OIL TANK IS INVERTED OR GLASS COULD GET INTO OIL TANK IF LENS SHOULD BREAK DURING REMOVAL. Remove screws (102) securing liquid level gage (107) to oil tank. Remove gage and assembled packing (117) and ball (110) from oil tank (125). Discard packing. NOTE: UP784438 IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF SCREWS (100) MAY RESULT IN BREAKAGE OF LIQUID SIGHT INDICATOR (105) LENS. (5) NOTE: I. WHEN PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING STEP ENSURE TAPE IS INSTALLED OVER LENS OF LIQUID SIGHT INDICATOR AND OIL TANK IS INVERTED OR GLASS COULD GET INTO OIL TANK IF LENS SHOULD BREAK DURING REMOVAL. Packing mating surface must be clean (no sealant or compound) and free of defects. Install ball (110) on oil tank (125). 79-10-01 © Honeywell International Inc. (3) Install packing (117) onto liquid level gage (107) without sealant. UP784438 CAUTION: IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF SCREWS (102) MAY RESULT IN BREAKAGE OF LIQUID LEVEL GAGE (107) LENS. (4) Install liquid level gage (107) with packing (117) on oil tank (125) and secure with screws (102). Install screws until screw heads just bottom on liquid level gage. (5) Tighten screws (102) in sequence shown in Figure 214 to 5 in-lbf torque. After each tightening sequence, increase torque 5 in-lbf until 30 in-lbf torque is attained on each screw. (6) Seal oil tank ports and pressurize oil tank at 4.5 to 4.8 psig. Immerse oil tank in water and observe that no air leakage occurs at liquid level gage. If leakage occurs, remove liquid level gage components from oil tank and repeat the installation procedures until no air leaks occur. 79-10-01 © Honeywell International Inc.
