It is the use of drugs and substances for a purpose different from the one for which it
has been prescribed.

1. Inhalants
Volatile chemical substances that contain psycho-active (mind/mood altering) vapors to produce a state of
intoxication.
Ex: Glue and Adhesive Cement / Rugby / Super Glue / Thinner

speech, taste, smell, etc.)
Vomiting

2. Narcotics



The term narcotic, originally referred to a variety of
substances that induced sleep.
Also called OPIATES, which is medically used to
relieve pain.
When abused it causes insensibility, and dullness
of mind with delusions.
(Ex: Cough syrups, Opium, Cocaine, Morphine,
Heroine)

3. Stimulants

(also known as “uppers”)

Any of a group of drugs that excite the central
nervous system, in which increase alertness,
alleviate fatigue, reduce hunger and provide a
feeling of well being.
(Ex. Cocaine / Amphetamine i.e. SHABU)
Dilated pupils
Increase in blood pressure / Heart rate / Breathing rate / Body Temperature
Involuntary muscle twitching

4. Depressants

also called as “downers”

any drug or chemical that decreases the activity of
any bodily function. The term most often is used to
refer to drugs that reduce the activity of the central
nervous system
(Ex: Sedatives / Sleeping Pills / Tranquilizers)

Large doses: slurred speech,
staggering, poor judgment, slow






5. Hallucinogens
 (also called psychedelics)
 First developed as appetite suppressant
 any one of a large number of natural or
synthetic psychoactive drugs that produce
marked distortions of the senses and changes
in perception. Drugs capable of provoking
changes in sensation, thinking, self-awareness
and emotion. Alteration of time and space
perception and hallucination.
(Ex: MJ / LSD / Ecstasy / Ketamine)

The planting, growing, & harvesting of plants sources of dangerous drugs like MJ, ephedra, coca & opium poppy,
which are the sources of raw materials for the manufacture of precursors &/or dangerous drugs.
PROCESSING
* harvested raw materials are brought to clandestine laboratories for processing into precursor or semi-finished form
such as ephedrine for ephedra & base or paste for coca; or finished products such as shabu & cocaine; raw
materials also come from diversion of licit production, precursors & chemicals such as ephedrine from the
manufacture of medicinal preparations like cold tablets to shabu.
TRAFFICKING
The surreptitious movement & delivery of dangerous drugs from the clan labs to the wholesale markets (domestic or
international).
FINANCING
- the receipt & disposition of payments for drugs. Lucrative profits are amassed, laundered & used for
various purposes.
RETAILING
* The selling or pushing of drugs in small quantities (drugs are “cut”, for bigger profit)
to the end users at the street or grassroots levels.
CONSUMPTION
*
The period when illegal drugs go down to the market or directly to the consumers for the purpose of abuse or
misuse.
