CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Research Design This research entitled: Effects of writing explanation Letter among Tardy Grade 10 Students uses case study. A case study has been described as an intensive, systematic investigation of a single individual, group, community or some other unit in which researcher examines in-depth data relating to several variables (Hafla, 2018). This research used case study to find out and understand deeper the effects of writing explanation letter among tardy students in Grade 10. Research Subject and Environment The respondents of this study are Grade 10 Junior High School (JHS) students of Medellin National High School. The researcher chose 10 respondents using purposive sampling because thet are suitable and fit into the problems that were useful for this study. This Study was conducted at Medellin National High School, Poblacion, Medellin, Cebu S.Y. 2022-2023. Research Method and Instrument The research method used in this study is semi-structured interview whereas the researcher able to create a follow-up questions to gather data from the respondents. Specially, the researcher used semi-structured interview guide as instrument in collecting the data. Data Analysis The researcher analyzed the data thematically. After gathering the data, the researchers then removed identities for confidentiality of the respondents, then codes were developed to make information meaningful. Data Gathering Procedure Before gathering the data, the researcher secured a written permit to the principal of Medellin National High School to conduct interviews inside the campus. After given the permission, the researchers then respondents to be interviewed. In gathering the data the researcher explained to the respondents what the study is all about. The respondents have given a chance to choose a place they are comfortable with to speak. CHAPTER IV DATA PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION This chapter presents the results of the semi-structured interview guide given to respondents. The results from the interview are being analyzed and interpreted by the researchers thematically. Table 1: The issue and problems encountered by students in writing explanation letter. It shows that some students are afraid of writing explanation letter. One of the difficulties that students encountered was their lack of self-confidence. In addition, some students says “Magsigi ko ug usab ug buhat kay dili mao ang format sa pagbuhat nako ug letter”. they keep on repeating and rewriting it because of the proper formatting ing writing the letter. Other student also said that “ Wala koy salig sa akong kaugalingon”. The student’s lack of self-confidence greatly affects their ability to write correctly. Because of this, students tend to rewrite it because of different errors. Note: (Result) Present the results in this manner (Direct quotation). CHAPTER V SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATION Summary This study aimed to know the effects of writing explanation letter among the Grade 10 tardy students in Medellin National High School S.Y. 2022-2023. Specifically, This sought to answer the following questions: 1. What student misbehavior require explanation letter? 2. What are the issues and problems encountered by students in writing explanation letter? 3. How writing explanation letter modify students’ behavior towards tardiness? The study utilized semi-structured interview guide as an instrument to gather data from the respondents. The students’ misbehaviors are late, cutting classes, unreasonable absences and other things that violates the rules and regulations of the school. Students who violate the school policies will write an explanation letter so that they can enter in their respective classes. in writing explanation letter, students have encountered different issues and problems, one of those is having difficulties in writing the actual letter. Students were having difficulties in formatting and also, grammar and spelling in their letter, resulting them to become hesitant to write because of the lack of selfconfidence. Despite all these, through writing explanation letter, students gained learnings. Some of the respondents said that writing explanation letter itself helps minimize student’s misbehavior. Conclusion This study is conducted in Medellin National high school with the research topic, Effects of writing explanation letter among grade 10 tardy students. Based on the data gathered through semi-structured interview guide, the researcher found out that some students encountered different issues and problems like correct spelling, grammar and proper way and format in writing the explanation letter. The respondents defined that writing explanation letter is a way in minimizing students’ misbehavior and help them improve their writing skills. In addition, writing explanation letter help students overcome their fear in grammar and spelling for they will be immediately corrected every time they write letter. Finally, the researcher concluded , that teachers and advisers are a great in enhancing students skills in writing. Also, tardy students only need motivations, recognition and encouragements from their teachers. Lastly, the researcher concluded that writing explanation letter help the appropriateness of the students. Recommendation The researchers suggested the following: 1. The school must implement rules and regulations among the tardy students to enhance their skills in writing. 2.
