APPLY WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED
Activity no. 1: Comparative Essay
“A father is neither an anchor to hold us back nor a sail to take us there but a guiding light
whose love shows us the way”.
Our relationship with our father is the one that shapes who we are. Their treatment depict on
how we treat them. The two stories that we are going to talk about have something in common with the
statement above.
The first story comes with a bitter approach. In the beginning of the story, the speaker
introduces the father pleasantly. As the story goes on and reveals the relationship of the father and child
which is cold and tough. Upon analyzing the story, the speaker burst out the grudges he’s or she’s been
keeping for a long time by giving his father a low C in English. What he or she did not resolved the
tangled relation of the two, instead it gave the child no chance to reconcile with the father.
On the other hand, the second story also starts with the introduction of rough relationship of a
father and daughter. The father appears to be strict due to his past experience. The daughter seems to
be sophisticated in the treatment of his father because of this circumstance the daughter grew with a
cold shoulder towards his father. But as the story progress their relationship turns to be the best for
they have each other in every circumstances they encountered.
To sum up everything that has been stated so far, our father’s treatment shapes how we treat
them. Sometimes our relationship with them depends on how we love and care for them.
