Mathematics VI Q3 Wk1 Welcome to our Math class! Drill: 1. Name each polygon. 2. 3. 5. 4. Lesson 1 – Visualizes and describes the different solid figures: cube, prism, pyramid, cylinder, cone, and sphere. (M6GE-IIa-27). Who among you help their parents at home? Is it good to help them doing household chores? Why? Andrew is helping her mother clean their grocery store. While rearranging the food display in the cabinet, he noticed that there are sardines, corned beef and tuna in cans, and condiments in bottles. There are also boxes of milk, boxes of toothpaste and bar of soaps. Can you tell what solid figure do these objects resemble? 1. Who is helping his mother? 2. What are the things he noticed in the cabinet? 3. Do you know what solid figures do these objects look like? Solid/ Spatial Figures Solid Figures are figures that has length, width and height. Parts of a Solid Figure Face- the flat surface or sides that are polygons. Edge- are lines of where 2 faces meet. Vertex- the endpoint of an edge. It is when 3 edges meet form a vertex. Cube- is a solid figure with 6 congruent faces. It has 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices. Cube Prisms- are solid figures that have parallel faces that have the same shape. These faces of its sides are parallelograms. A prism is named according to the shape of its base. Rectangular Prism A rectangular prism has 6 faces,12 edges, and 8 vertices. Pentagonal Prism A pentagonal prism is a prism that has two pentagonal bases and 5 rectangular sides. It has 7 faces, 10 vertices and 15 edges. Triangular Prism A triangular prism has 5 faces, 9 edges, and 6 vertices. Pyramid- is a solid figure made up of base and triangular faces. A square pyramid has 1 square base and 4 triangular faces, 8 edges and 5 vertices. Square Pyramid Triangular pyramid has 4 triangular faces, 6 edges and 4 vertices. Triangular Pyramid Cylinder - is a solid figure that has two circular bases and a curved lateral face. Cylinder Cone - a solid figure that has 1 circular base , 1 vertex and a curved face pointed towards the top. Cone Sphere- is a solid figure in which all points are of equal distance from a point called its center. It has no vertex and edges. Sphere GROUP 1 Name and describe the solid figures represented by the real objects given below. GROUP 2 Give 3 objects that are models of the following spatial figures: 1. cone 2. cylinder 3. cube 4. rectangular prism 5. sphere GROUP 3 Complete the data by drawing the figure, writing the number of edges, faces and vertices of the given solid figures. What is a solid/ spatial figure? What are the different spatial figures. Describe each one. Give examples of real life objects that represent each spatial figure. Direction: Choose the solid figure in Column B that is represented by the following objects in column A. ASSESSMENT: Direction: Write T if the statement is true and F if it is false. 1. The base of a cone is square. 2. A cylinder has a circular base. 3. The base of an octagonal pyramid has 7 sides. 4. A pyramid has a triangular face. 5. A cube has six faces. 6. A sphere is a plane figure. 7. A cone has no vertex. 8. A rectangular pyramid has square faces. 9. Spatial figures are three – dimensional figures. 10. The faces of a prism are triangles.
