To clone or not to clone?
Views on the issue of whether to clone or not to clone vary from person to person.
Some announce that cloning people means a new technology century, while others think that
cloning people may have many disadvantages for society. As far as I am concerned, I
believe there is no need to clone people based on the four reasons below.
The fundamental reason is that cloning people will strongly disturb the natural
ecology status. If human cloning is made, we will no longer be unique in the world. Clones
may replace us at any moment. As a matter of fact, every clone will develop uniquely
according to its situation and have its own characteristics and ideas, gradually making us
lose our individuality. For example, if I have a careful character, however, maybe it's because
of the habits from childhood, and so on, the clone of me is a careless person. In this case,
people who know both of us at the same time will confuse my personality, resulting in me as
a normal person being unable to have my distinctive character.
As I have mentioned above, cloning people will reduce the overall value of human
beings to some degree because we then begin to become a commodity. Suppose we
compare a normal person born naturally but with defects and another perfectly made clone,
people will prefer the person without defects, because it is the most perfect personality in
people's ideal.
Many supporters state that making clones can help us treat many diseases because
they actually have the same DNA as we have. Organ transplantation, blood transfusion, and
other treatments will become simple. Nonetheless, in fact, the technology of human cloning
is still not mature enough. Studies show that human DNA may be polluted during the
process of copying, and if we use this mismatched DNA without knowing it, it may lead to
serious consequences.
The last point I want to make is also the most serious one in my opinion. Imagine that
if human cloning is successfully made, the way people deal with feelings such as sadness
will change. For example, a 3 year-old-child died, and his parents may accept the clone of
the child, so that they will not feel that sad. It will not be the same child, but the new offspring
will look and may act in the same way. This will lose the meaning of humans eventually
because if something terrible happens, we will just look for a clone.
Personally, I do not support cloning. Cloning people will lead to many moral
problems, and I believe there are enough ordinary people in the world; therefore, there is no
need for cloning. If it is needed for medical treatment, DNA and other treatments, I believe
there will be other technologies that can achieve it. Human cloning is easy for people to
abuse and lose the essence of human existence.
