ENLISTED AVIATION WARFARE SPECIALIST (EAWS) Platform Specific E-2D PLATFORM SPECIFIC: INTRODUCTION E-2D ENLISTED AVIATION WARFARE QUALIFICATION Background: The Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS) program was established in 1980 to recognize enlisted personnel who acquired the specific professional skills, knowledge, and military experience that resulted in unique qualification for service in the aviation activities of the Navy. This program has gone through many changes in regards to modernization of aircraft and air-capable vessels, mission requirements and personal qualification expectations since program inception. This qualification in its current form is to ensure that enlisted Sailors have and retain the requisite knowledge to sustain planes and platforms in their highest warfighting posture. Each command has a specific platform in which to obtain the EAWS qualification. This PQS is designed to systematically take you through the different areas of the aircraft. The learning encompasses general aircraft information and platform specific systems knowledge. Each block will provide basic information and challenge your ability to use references to gain the additional information required to explain how systems work independently and together. Previous versions of the EAWS program for specific platforms were largely aligned with book learning and memorization. This current approved version revitalized and balanced book learning and memorization with practical application. Common core in its current form enables enlisted Sailors to retain the requisite knowledge to sustain planes and platforms in their highest warfighting posture. Intent: The expectation is for every enlisted Sailor to know their aircraft; both practical and knowledge based. Attainment of the EAWS designation signifies a milestone in a Sailors career and professional development as an Aviation War Fighter. Sailors that qualify in platform specific EAWS should be able to use the qualification not just wear the qualification. The integrity of this program lies with the qualifying Petty Officers to properly train all Qualification Petty Officers to ensure that every Sailor attaining EAWS is fully trained and ready to qualify. The Chiefs Mess is an integral part of the training and qualification process. Qualification status reports are required to maintain training standards and the professional development of every enlisted Sailor assigned.
