back every year if you take

Discuss: How can you correct the fragments
and run-ons in this passage?
Planting a vegetable
garden. A great way to stay
healthy. Cucumbers,
zucchini, beans, and peas
grow on vines and tomatoes
and peppers grow on
bushes. You can plant seeds
in the soil water them and in
a few months, you can make
your own salad straight from
your garden.

Roses come in many
different colors and varieties.
Tea roses, damask roses,
moss roses, and cabbage
roses they can be pink,
yellow, peach, and more.
Represent love and
friendship.
Discuss: How can you correct the fragments
and run-ons in this passage?
I can correct the run-ons by separating
them into individual thoughts like this: Have
you ever heard the saying, “April showers
bring May flowers”? It is true. There are two
types of flowers: annuals and perennials.
Annuals last for one season. Perennials will
grow back every year if you take good
care of them. To correct the fragments, I
can add a subject like this: Annuals and
perennials make your garden beautiful.
I can correct the two sentence fragments
by combining them like this: Planting a
vegetable garden is a great way to stay
healthy. I can correct the two run-ons by
separating them into individual complete
thoughts like this: Cucumbers, zucchini,
beans, and peas grow on bushes. You can
plant seeds in the soil and water them.
Then, in a few months you can make your
own salad straight from your garden.
I can correct the run-on sentence by
separating it into two complete thoughts,
like this: Some types of roses are tea roses,
demask roses, moss roses, and cabbage
roses. They can be pink, yellow, peach
and more. I can correct the sentence
fragment by adding a subject (noun) to
make it a complete thought, like this: Roses
represent love and friendship.

Explain
This is a run-on sentence because there are two
subjects and two predicates that are not joined with
a conjunction. It could be corrected by adding a
period between the word broken and I.
This is a fragment because it does not include a
complete subject and predicate. It could be
corrected by replacing the period with a comma
and changing My to my.
