Extended Warehouse
Management with SAP®
Supply Chain Management
Improves Visibility, Maximizes Warehouse
Efficiency and Empowers Your Workforce
Companies are continually looking to
increase speed and efficiency throughout
their supply chains, while balancing
efficiency and responsiveness to compete
in today’s global economy. They are looking
to increase competitiveness by improving
their capability to plan and execute efficiently,
as well as monitoring and responding to
real-time business indicators. The release of
SAP® Extended Warehouse Management
(EWM), within the SAP Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM) application, offers
flexible, automated support for processing
goods movements and managing stock to
optimize overall warehouse control and
efficiency by streamlining the inventory,
warehouse and delivery processes.
SAP SCM EWM Capabilities
SCM EWM offers functionality including support
for inbound and outbound processing, facility/bin
management and storage, internal warehouse
control (i.e. stock status changes), physical
inventory and cycle counting, yard management,
cross docking and labor management. It has been
designed to work in high volume, complex
warehouses that require support for complex,
multi-step processes.
This new warehouse management system ensures
SAP customers have one of the industry’s most
powerful and advanced warehouse management
systems, fully integrated with the core SAP SCM
suite. And unlike other best-of-breed systems, it is
not subject to any of the separate integration,
interface, upgrade and support issues
required. SAP SCM EWM delivers higher levels of
functionality, power and technological capabilities.
When correctly implemented, the SAP EWM brings
planning and execution functions closer together.
It also allows customers the ability to map all
warehouse facilities, including yards, in detail,
down to storage-bin level. Not only do you gain
an overview of the quantity of material in the
warehouse, but you can also determine exactly
which bin a certain material is currently located in
your warehouse complex. You can optimize the use
of various storage bins and stock movements and
you can store stock from several plants in random
storage areas in the same warehouse complex.

Benefits
With SAP EWM you can control and optimize
various processes in the warehouse based on your
current and future business processes or physical
layout. SCM EWM is completely integrated into
SAP’s inventory management and delivery
processing functions, enabling control and
optimization of processes down to the warehouse
level. Business processes and transactions
triggered in other SAP components/modules trigger
movements in the warehouse allowing the user to
organize, control and monitor these movements in
SAP SCM EWM.
