Republic of the Philippines Department of Education Region VI-Western Visayas Schools Division of Capiz District of President Roxas Carmencita-Sto. Niño Elementary School Global Handwashing Day is a day to support a global and local culture of handwashing with soap. Shine a spotlight on the state of handwashing in each country and raise awareness about the benefits of handwashing with soap since 2008, “Global Handwashing Day” has been celebrated annually on October 15 not only nationwide but worldwide. The Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing with soap encourages school children, teachers and families to get involved with this activity Global Handwashing Day is designed to support a global and local culture of handwashing with soap, shine spotlight on the state of handwashing in each country and raise awareness about the benefits of handwashing with soap. The 2023 Global Handwashing Day theme is “Clean hands are within reach” underscores the importance of accessibility to hand hygiene facilities including soap and water in all settings such as home, schools, health care facilities, workplaces and other community settings. Keeping hands clean through improved hand hygiene which is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many sickness and conditions are spread by not washing hands with soap and clean, running water. If clean, running water is not accessible, as is common in many parts of the world, use soap and available water. Thru this event, pupils were reminded how important it is to keep our hands free from dirt. Teachers always do their part in the realization of this as it became a habit. For we are informed that a mind can forget but when it became a habit, an educated heart can keep the teaching and apply it in a real sense. It is a once-a-year opportunity to make a big splash in support of handwashing with soap, but the important work of hand hygiene promotion should not end after October 15. If Global Handwashing Day celebrants advocate for handwashing with soap every day, we can make significant progress in moving toward the goal of increasing hand hygiene programs, investment and behavior. Whether you are supporting your child’s school with WASH improvements, such as developing a group handwashing station, or demonstrating good hand hygiene practices to change your community’s social norms around handwashing, efforts must continue beyond October 15 to achieve hand hygiene for all. We, teachers appreciated the conduct of this activity. It won’t just end on a one-day event, but we will observe handwashing period everyday as part of our everyday routine.
