URGENCY 1 Urgency Addition URGENCY 2 [Title Here, up to 12 Words, on One to Two Lines] Complete the Urgency Addition Questionnaire to determine your score. I took the Urgency Addition Questionnaire and got a score of 35. According to the scoring chart, this falls right in the middle of a Strong Urgency mindset. The scoring for strong urgency mindset was anywhere from 26-45. Most of my scores fell between always or never as I had strong feelings towards each question. Based upon the readings, what is the significance of your score on your personal effectiveness? My score shows that my life is ran significantly by urgency. The readings talk about how urgency is an addiction. Things that are urgent seem important but that may not always be the case. They connect the lack of personal effectiveness to high urgency as we make excuses when we are busy. We tend to place an emphasis on tasks that are urgent and therefore put aside the important things that aren’t urgent. They showed us this through the use of the 4 quadrants how there are things that are important and urgent, important and non-urgent, non-important and urgent, and non-important and non-urgent. They also showed examples where we set aside exercise because we are too busy. I am ranked in the middle. This means that I have some significant urgency that runs my life. I am not yet addicted but my profession for a couple months out of the year may subject me to be urgency addicted. I can see it in my own life right now where I have set aside important non urgent things because I have been “too busy” with my internship, school and job. URGENCY 3 What specific steps can you incorporate into your life and work to increase your personal effectiveness and limit the impact of urgency addiction? Personal effectiveness is important as we need to take care of ourselves and relationships first. Urgency addiction temporarily fills the gaps of time that should be spent elsewhere. This is where the four quadrants come into play. We need to prepare for urgency addiction by first identifying what is and isn’t important. Taking away urgency from the task, we need to ask ourselves what is really important. As mention in the reading, things that are urgent and important will be done naturally. However, things that are not urgent but are still important will have to be actively acted upon. I need to identify the important tasks in my life that are not urgent. Whether this be exercise, spending quality time with friends or other non urgent activities, I need to designate the time to spend on those activities. This will lower my urgency lifestyle and make my life properly fulfilling instead of plugging those gaps with no important urgent tasks.
