 Industrial-organizational psychology studies psychological aspects, focusing on human
behaviour. Business programs are not concerned with human behaviour.

 Industrial-organizational psychologists focus strictly on the factors in businesses that
affect people
 Industrial-organizational psychologists heavily on research, quantitative methods, and

 Industrial-organizational psychologists are not clinicians. They do not work with
individuals to resolve mental health or social problems. Instead, I/O psychologists are
business-focused.
 Business programs focuses on planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the
activities of a business or organization to achieve its goals and objectives. It involves
overseeing all aspects of a business, from finance and operations to marketing.

knowledge and skills needed for a career in the business realm. Studies may consist of
finance, accounting, economics, organizational studies, business ethics, and marketing.
2. What is the difference between Industrial psychology and Organizational Psychology?
 Industrial psychology tends to focus on hiring, training and development, assessing
employee performance, and legal issues associated with those issues. Organizational
psychology tends to focus on motivation, teamwork, and leadership.
 The main role of the industrial side of industrial-organizational psychology is to learn how
to best match individuals to specific job roles. This segment of I-O psychology is also
sometimes referred to as personnel psychology.
 The organizational side of I-O psychology is more focused on understanding how
organizations affect individual behaviour. Organizational structures, social norms,
management styles, and role expectations are all factors that can influence how people
behave within an organization.
 Organizational psychology tends to focus more on the development and growth of the
individual, the group, and the organization, and how to foster the creativity and
innovation of work practices and cultures.
