ВТиПО – Week 4 | p.33 Unit 4 | Writing The two diagrams illustrate the configuration and composition of the submerged terrain. The initial profile presents a cross-sectional view of a continent's coastline beneath the sea’s surface, indicating that the continental shelf extends to a depth of roughly 200 meters below sea level. Beyond this point, the land descends abruptly to the sea's base, commonly referred to as the sea floor. The second diagram directs attention to marine depth and the extent of light reaching the depths. The reference point for sea level is denoted as 0 meters, with the initial 200 meters beneath the surface designated as the zone where sunlight penetrates. This region marks the conclusion of the continental shelf. Subsequent to this area is the zone known as twilight, which descends for 800 meters. The displayed water temperature in this zone is around 5°C. The section spanning from 1000 to 4000 meters is termed the dark zone, characterized by water temperatures of 1-2°C. The lack of substantial light penetration at these depths creates an environment of near-total darkness.
