Factors that have developed in Filipino Nationalism
1.Suez Canal – November 17, 1869, 30 day voyage
Impact on the Philippines, Asia and the Present:
1.During the time of colonialism, it became a way to exchange ideas from Europe and the
Philippines. Due to the Suez Canal, the number of Filipinos who studied in Spain and other parts of
Europe increased, causing them to wake up to the true condition of those who were left behind in
the colony. Another thing it has done is the directness of the relationship between the Philippines
and Spain. Unlike before, it is necessary to cross the Pacific Ocean to Mexico to deliver what Spain
needs.
2. This is also the effect of the opening of the Suez Canal in other parts of Asia that were former
colonies of other countries in Europe.
3. Currently, the Suez Canal is becoming a way for the rapid transportation of goods to Europe and
to the Philippines, and to other parts of Asia.
2. La Ilustracion (Age of Enlightment) – development of government, infrastructure and social
institutions. La Ilustracion shaped Europe with modern ideas in the aspects of government,
democracy, education, economics, art and literature. French Revolution 1789 liberty, equality and
fraternity (liberty, equality and fraternity) The American Revolutionary War 1775-1783
