JOB TITLE: Bus Mechanic Reports TO: Transportation Supervisor JOB Responsibilities: Assist in maintaining and repairing all school vehicles and powered machinery, including mechanical, electrical and body work. Assist in starting buses as required. Effective and accurate preparation and filing of all vehicle records, including work orders, inventory, and any other forms utilized in the Transportation Department. Provide preventative maintenance on all vehicles and machinery as assigned. Work with Head Mechanic to order parts and materials necessary for effective repair and maintenance work. Maintain garage area in a clean and orderly fashion. Use proper safety measures when working on equipment. Must be available to handle emergency needs after regular hours. Required to transport students when necessary. Perform welding, either gas or electric, as required. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director and Head Mechanic. REQUIRED QUALIFICATION Possess and maintain appropriate certified driver's license (CDL) status. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Although a mechanics license is not required, must have the ability to become licensed within 30 days should it become a State requirement. Two (2) year experience as a mechanic. Previous work with heavy-duty trucks is desirable.
