Overview
From Microsoft:
MSDN subscriptions are now called Visual Studio subscriptions, but even with a new name you still get the
same great value to support your development on any platform—current and past versions of Visual Studio
and other Microsoft software for dev/test, use of Visual Studio Team Services, developer training, support,
and much more.
HCL Products & Platforms use these subscriptions for access to Microsoft technologies in support of our product
development, testing and support activities. This document describes how to select and request the right
subscription for you.
Process
HCL’s software license management solution is called TARMAC and is used for the request and allocation of software
licenses to end-users. Here are the steps to obtain a Visual Studio (MSDN) subscription:
1. Request in TARMAC
a. Log in to TARMAC at: https://tools.hcl.com/tool
b. Locate MSDN Subscription options by searching for “MSDN” in the search box at the top of the site:
c. Select the green link (should say “HCL Inventory: XXX”) next to the MSDN Enterprise item.
d. Complete the request form:
If you have an HCL-managed workstation declared in TARMAC then select it. If you do not (for
example still using an IBM image before HCL-image is deployed), then pick the option: Without
Machine (System generated VM).
2
For the Alternate Approver field, select your line manager or closest individual to them in the dropdown list.
In the Justification field, please enter:
HCL P&P Request: NOT Customer Project
e. Submit. You should get an email confirming allocation to you, but we’re not done yet. To establish
the subscription, keep following:
2. Subscription Setup
a. Send an email, populating the table with your details and supplying a screenshot of the approved
license in TARMAC, they will assign an MSDN subscription to the requesting individual:
To: SAM_GIT@hcl.com
First Name
Last Name
SAP ID
Email address
Phone Number
MSDN Version
Enterprise
3. Activate Subscription
You should receive an email from SubscriberBenefits@microsoft.com that you have been assigned Visual
Studio subscription. Login to the URL to activate the subscription using your HCL email id.
