Eggamuge, S. Hithadhoo, Addu City, May 2022 Respected Sir, I am a 3rd year medical student pursuing Doctor of Medicine at Emilio Aguinaldo College, Philippines. I am currently in the 2nd semester of 3rd year, leaving me with the final year of my study along with an internship to complete. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, I am currently staying in the Maldives and continuing my course online. However, I am expected to travel to the Philippines and join face-to-face classes for the upcoming school year. This pandemic has had a huge toll on me and my family leaving us in a desperate situation financially. In order to overcome the financial burden of my studies, I have been working and studying ever since I came back to Maldives due to COVID-19 outbreak. I have barely been able to make enough to cover my current semester’s payment leaving me nothing to save for my future semestral fees and contribute towards living expenses. In addition to it, as I already have a pending student loan taken from the Ministry of Higher Education to complete my bachelor of science in biology degree program, makes me ineligible to apply for another student loan. With the 4th year (clerkship) which is my last year of college coming up, where I have to work at a hospital 12-hour shift every day makes it impossible for me to do hospital rounds and earn to pay for my college fee. Furthermore, the whole of 4th year and internship year is expected to be spent in the Philippines. The table below summarises the expected costs for the two years. (Clerkship - July 2022 till July 2023 and internship Mid 2023 till mid 2024) school Year Estimated Tuition Estimated living Total fee (mvr) cost (mvr) (mvr) year 4th year 2022 - 2023 85,000 97,000 182,000 Internship 2024 88,385 72,000 160,385 246,428 223,268 342,385 Total (mvr) Sir, you are well known in our community for your unparalleled investments done for the growth and wellbeing of the youth.
